It's got a Renault badge but WTF is it?
i am not sure but it could be a renault 4
Looks right for a 4. There is probably another point or two hiding there, since Renault evidently offered specialty tools for getting it more off-road worthy. Nothing like a 2" difference in wheelbase between the left and right to form the basis for a highly modable offroad steed.
I think we found one rusting in the woods above North Bend when I was a kid. But that might have been a 7. My brain hides at least half of the Renault knowledge as a survival mechanism. Can't decide if I'm impressed that they upgraded to a less fading red or if that's just custom paint. No way could any red Renault from 1970 be that far from pink at this point--or 30 years ago, for that matter.
ETA: it's obviously later than 1970--mirror and doorhandles look to be shared with the R5. But I think it deserves 2 points: the jacking up via twisting the torsion bars isn't really on the outside, but that pic of itself in white at the beach has to count for something, surely!

I think I worded that badly--by "they" I meant Renault, as-in maybe Renault had finally run out of the special sun-customizing paint they'd always used before this car was produced. But most likely anything you can do to bolster the strength of the paint would be a good idea on a 40-year old Renault. I recall the standard solution for older ones was to buy a can of spray paint and blend in your own custom two-tone, but this generally assumes that you're replacing one panel at a time from your parts car.
Less than you'd think (but probably a lot more than the engineers at Renault thought).
Isn't "engineers at Renault" an oxymoron?
Just plain old morons. No oxy about it.
Valid point. Persistent benefit of the doubt may be a side effect of my condition.
To be fair, I don't recall ever facing the wrong way in any of the unequal wheelbase models, whereas the "corrected" cars did try to kill me on several occasions. It's remains possible that this was a genius plan to balance (21 ft-lbs of) torque steer with unequal wheelbases and not just a really low standard for rear end stability. Possibly.

Yup; judges are not pleased.
the steel ramps are for loading onto sketchy river ferries and the like, no? Like, if you get to a river that's too deep to cross, you might have to make camp and construct a log raft to get across the river, or, a small village that only has one janky raft rope-powered ferry across the river. You can share food and stories with the villagers over a campfire and load the Rover onto the ferry in the morning. Oh the adventures they must have!! 110 Is a rad looking truck.
If we're gonna wear uniforms, we should all wear somethin' different!
i was wondering why somebody puts a gasoleo (diesel in portuguese) sticker on his car... i did not see it in the carpark only after posting in this thread.
a quick google : " rent renault r4 algarve"
https://www.vintagecampersvans.com/4l-ria/
apparently you can rent this car with tent for 35bucks a day
fully equipped with gas stove and fridge.
i would have never thought this vehicle has more under the hood than an old engine : )
yes and those villagers don´t have a washing machine so they can put all there dirty laundry in the laundry sack and the driver doesn't have to deal with all the flies inside the car.
so this ultra sketchy river-ferry runs only ones a week so he can bring back the stuff a week after.
“Oh, my shirt, it’s so clean! How did you do it?”

The Maytag Man.”
