Man, sometimes people are just needlessly shitty to friends, family or people who help them out. It's hard to understand and can be hard to watch from the outside but the best thing to do generally is remove them as much as you can so they can't spread too much toxicity into your life. Online interactions make it easier not think about the other people, but it happens in person too.

Sucks it's your dad, did you try calling, not text or facebook?

My girlfriend mentioned there were organizations offering free therapy sessions to people working with covid patients. Might not be your thing, but it could be helpful. I actually meant to ask her and post the site here in case it was helpful to anyone else. I know she tries not to drag work home too much, but I think there's some value in venting.

Thats crazy. They’ve heard the lies so many times that they think that its truth.

Oh hes been blocked from my social medias for years, the last straw was a picture of an "aborted fetus" on my Facebook wall. I only know of this because it was sent to me and I thought it was a bit much, even for him.

He won't answer his phone. Its fine, really. He will stop pouting eventually.

Ever since we lost the coworker who was unvaxxed according to the rumor mills but otherwise a good dude this shit has been getting harder to bear.

I have a very interactive job and most of the people are high risk and I have to tell at least 80% to put their masks on, pull them up over their noses and listen to their constant stream of bullshit.

People spreading antivax, antimask and covid is fake bullshit are killing people.

    Sal. -

my sympathy for your Family -

I think covid has been very hard on a lot of people's sanity
    ( I have seen a lot of angry, old males ( some of us aren't very old ) ) - -

your post does not say whether your Family's argument involves a (covid) patient , but
I would be surprised if it does -

more likely, it appears your Dad ,,, ( is dedicated to his beliefs. from my perspective, those beliefs are largely driven by a commitment to a 'political' ideology ( a dedicated commitment to . . . ) )

what can you do (?) I believe you asked -

You can listen. And then change the subject --

I have a couple of old friends who have become dedicated to [ cable T.v. news ] -
conversation is often including political rhetoric. I let it pass - and turn the conversation back to Grandkids or,,, almost anything else ( animals, hunting - Golf, the weather... )

You can listen. and then steer the conversation to the topics...

... there is just no reasoning with some people . . .

your Dad is experiencing that too.

    many here would share your Dad's criticism of the media - but from a very different perspective ;

Dr. Fauci ? put in an almost Impossible position, I believe Dr. Fauci has show great character and Patience and restraint
( I am not sure how one comes to (that conclusion) about a career civil servant - but forums like these are full of that kind of (claim) ) ,

it reads-like 'your cousin's MIL' is the wife of one of your parents' brothers - Or even more removed, your cousin's spouse's aunts ( which would make your father's 'relationship' by marriage a generation removed ! )

. . . those can be Very challenging relationships.

" social media" is not helping.

Just listen to your Dad, and then change the subject.
you understand what he believes and what his position is. it is not something you need to discuss.

. . . there's just no reasoning with some people...

    Good luck !
    with love.

My brother burned bridges with us over what started out as a antivax rant/telling us we were stupid for getting it and that we are horrible parents for planning on getting our 6 year old vaxed. Unfortunately that was the nicest thing of his overall rant…

The sister of one of my closest friends growing up is a antivax yoga wellness MAGA type. She got covid, spent the weekend in Black Butte with their vaccinated parents and gave it to them. She has a advanced degree, is very successful…. Took fucking ivermectin.

Remember how the "COVID's a hoax!" people kept telling us there was really nothing to worry about because the death rate from infection is so low? I feel like that's sort of where we'd actually be if nearly everyone was vaccinated, but now their new line is "So much for the vaccines. You can still get COVID even if you're vaxxed!" There's really no winning with morans who can't be bothered to understand statistics.

As I understand that's what happened with the Spanish flu over time. That's seemed more likely than true elimination though vaccinating and distancing.

How's your kid and family doing?

So far so good. Second round of tests came back negative for all of us. Kid’s cough is almost gone. If that stays that way, he can go back to school Tuesday according to the school nurse.

They'll figure it out. After all, our mothers got a country that assassinated its political leaders, lost Vietnam to communism, divided itself over same, liberated its women, went off the gold standard, polluted its air water and ground, had some oil shocks, people claimed their civil rights, and more calamities. Somehow they kept the good parts and made it to better days. Your daughters will prosper.

I believe MUnicorn raises a legitimate concern - ( about the world we leave to our descendants )

this thread was kind of all over the place yesterday, and I do not want to encourage more thread drift -

    I have spent too much time in the last year and a half questioning the world we are leaving to our descendants ;
from my perspective, it is not a rosy picture...

I will look for a different thread for that discussion - and encourage this thread to continue to have thoughtful discussion about covid and vaccination for covid...

    regarding covid,
I had a significant discussion last night with an old friend about medical providers / 'health care providers' refusing to accept *new* unvaccinated patients
( it links to MUnicorn's and -bippy's description of a failing patient's family demand for specific treatment... ) -

That might finally be a motivator -
my friend said medical care providers' ( doctors and nurses ) sympathy for unvaccinated patients developing covid is ( going away ) -
    ( also, one of the region's referral centers, has adopted a Policy that they will not accept patients referred for ECMO ) ;

what are LSL's and Multi- statistics (?)
vaccination provides 20x to 30x the protection ...

a review of the vaccination rate by State this morning shows only the New England states have 60% vaccination rates
( I found no state with higher than 61% vaccination rate ) -

I will continue to promote vaccination - and protective practices --

I believe I share LSL's concern that given current behavior, we will all eventually be infected by the covid virus , and
the Risk of experiencing long term 'Injury' ,,, is something I will work to avoid.

    crud.

    wishing you all
a Good Labor day holiday... !

    thanks for (listening) -

    Respectfully. skiJ

Here are the numbers that don’t exclude kids from population totals.

    https://usafacts.org/visualizations/...tracker-states

National average is at 53% vaccinated
Highest state is Vermont at 68%

I figure we'll get an 5% increase in vaccinations when the shots are opened up to kids ages 5 - 11. It won't be enough for herd immunity.

One of our ex-presidents saying he won't get the booster isn't helping the cause, regardless of if he truly needs it or not. We really need to depoliticize this thing and get the fence sitters to get the shots. About 91% of the population has the MMR vaccine. We should be able to get to 80% with the COVID vaccinations if politicians and some of our news sources can cease the misinformation/disinformation campaign. Unfortunately I think it's too profitable for them to stop.
Damn shame, throwing away a perfectly good white boy like that

Anyone catch last nights 60 Minutes and the DOD responses to Covid?

It might surprise you to learn that many of the innovations deployed to counter the coronavirus were once obscure Pentagon-funded projects to defend soldiers from contagious diseases and biological weapons. The life-saving vaccine developed in record time owes a debt to these programs. To learn more, we met the man who has been leading the rapid vaccine effort, retired Colonel Matt Hepburn, an Army infectious disease physician who, as we first reported in April, spent years with the secretive defense advanced research projects agency or DARPA, working on technology he hopes will ensure COVID-19 is the last pandemic.

Im guessing we’re at 91% for MMR because it’s required for public schools. Making the vaccine mandatory is the only way we’ll get there. There is unfortunately no other way.

$2500 federal vax tax. You ain’t vaxed -> you pay.

If they don’t pay taxes give em a check for a few hundred…

People will do anything for money…

    100%

Problem is - if we didn’t politicize it in the beginning we could still very well have Trump. Kinda hard to turn that around now.

Speaking of- I saw a clip where he encouraged people to “get the shot” at a rally-> and got big league booed! No wonder he’s now against boosters. His fragile ego can’t handle the boos!

Wow, you’re a genius. Why do you think we’re having this surge now? People have been talking about getting more/most people vaccinated for months.

Wow, why are you so agro?

I think we are having this surge now because we stopped practicing nearly every precautionary measure well before it was safe to do so.

Further we have absolutely failed at science communication aka ignoramus outreach.

That is my understanding from several sources presenting research /researchers from UK. Everyone is going to be infected at some point. Those who have been vaxxed will fair many times better than those who have not been vaxxed.

Because you’re a troll? Your posting is the same as all the other contrarian trolls. It’s not helpful and could cause confusion because you don’t really know what you’re talking about. While you’re bunkered up in fear some of us have to confront these hard realities daily at our workplace. The sick and dying, the woefully/willfully ignorant. Your bullshit fear mongering doesn’t help. Of course we have a long way to go.
