What part about “once it gets full FDA approval and everyone can get the vaccine” do you not comprehend? I’d ask if you can read but apparently not.

    It’s really pretty simple.

I take no responsibility for anything, but want everyone else to accommodate my choices.

So, really, this last page of discussion really reinforces that employers need to exercise their responsibility to require vaccination or testing and the employees need to accommodate that choice by the employer or go find another job.

The other obvious thing is for the vaccinated to start pressuring companies that do not have vaccine mandates in place by taking their money elsewhere.

I’m flying in the next few months and you can be damn sure I am going to try to fly on a carrier with vaccinated staff and shop at stores with vaccinated staff.

Vaccinated and unvaccinated neither contract the virus nor transmit the virus at the same rate.

It’s just enforcing the, if you can’t get people to do what you want; take away freedoms and alienate them from society because your viewpoints are different.

Again, get the vaccine, save yourself from an extremely deadly disease that disproportionately effects obese, immune-compromised people so that we can “get back to normal”.

Yes, shunning is a timeless characteristic of civilization. It has been quite effective over time at getting people to adhere to social norms or leave.

Take your freedom? What other personal choices should your employer have to accept that aren’t covered by law?

Funny you mentioned that. My sinuses suck and I really like the deep nasal swab because it starts to clean out stuff I can't.

It's more like "hey lets try to squash this new weird mystery virus now before it has a chance to get any worse."

You don't care about this thing because you're not obese/old/at risk. Okay, that's pretty selfish but fine. But what if one day you are? Sure, you can stay fit and healthy and not be a giant fatass easy enough. But one day you will be old. And one day you may get cancer or whatever and have a weakened immune system, and then you're suddenly a super-high risk for bad COVID things to happen.

You may wish you and your pals put a little more effort in 2021 to try to nip this thing in the bud.

So the only person who loses, is myself and the other un-vaccinated or the people who are immuno-compromised and are fucked as it is.

I wonder what would happen if the FDA approves the vaccines and announces, "You've got 30 days to get the vaccine if you want it. After that, we're shipping it all overseas to countries that need it." I believe part of the hesitancy is due to availability.

Vaccine Mandates Aren’t Enough. Make Unvaccinated People Pay if They Harm Others.

About the authors: Arthur L. Caplan is professor of bioethics and the founding head of New York University School of Medicine’s Division of Medical Ethics. Dorit R. Reiss is a professor of law at UC Hastings College of Law.

The unvaccinated in the United States are imposing costs and harms on the rest of us. They are, as they incessantly point out, free to choose not to vaccinate. But they should pay for their poor choices that hurt others.

Everyone dies; that’s life. I don’t know if anyone told you but nobody makes it out alive. Yeah, I’ll get old eventually and be a higher risk and at that point, I’ll reevaluate how I live my life. Old people generally don’t do the same shit as when they were younger because they can’t.

In another 10-20 years we’ll have another new virus or disease to shut the world down over. 10 years ago people were crazed over the swine flu. 10 years from now it’ll be something else.

Hospitals are getting overwhelmed. You think that is driven more by vaccinated or unvaccinated people?

Yes vaccinated people can transmit the virus. You can leave that part out of your answer.

And then tell us about how you spending time reflecting on this post is going: “you are a fucking retard. You don’t get the shingles vaccine if you’ve had chickenpox before”

Thats been my position. Its not enough that theyre on the hook for their medical costs. They need to be responsible for the harm theyre inflicting on others. Pretty basic law. Ignorance is not an excuse, especially at this point

I think the "take away freedoms" antivaxx angle stems in part from how the pandemic conspiracies began. At first, since it was "just the flu" it became libs are exaggerating matters to hurt Trump. That morphed into libs like lockdowns and want lockdowns to persist, even though lockdowns are long since past. It's the same with masks. Masks don't work so it must be a conspiracy to take away freedoms. To them vaccines are just more of the same.

What the politically motivated "freedom" adjacent antivaxxers are missing is how fed up and angry vaccinated people are with all of it. Most don't want to go back to taking precautions. And they especially don't want to do it on antivaxxers behalf.

What folks like MontuckyFried and mtuhockey should at least take into account, whether intentional or not, is vaccinated folks see antivaxxers deliberately prolonging the pandemic for the sake of partisan politics.

Yes but some people are still stuck in the past.

To them it is only the obese (>50% of population), the elderly (significant % of population including leaders in all areas of life [business, education, politics, healthcare etc]) and then the immune compromised which assholes think are not worthy of much consideration.

Even if that were still true (it’s not) I can’t understand their lack of concern.

Add in the fact that it’s no longer true and the picture gets even worse.

By the way we are long overdue on one of them saying “we should do Sweden!” so get ready for that.
