^This. I wnet back to skiing DIN this year (mostly) because the plastic GripWalk Clamps flex / squirm under my measly 155 pounds. Would not want to be a young / big / charger on GripWalk at all.

It’s a touring boot, not an alpine one. It’s not designed to be a crossover as they already make that. It works with 10 years + of tech bindings.

The rockered boot board sounds like a great idea, until they break... So the 1300gr weight EVO gives is seemingly way off - this is more in Hawx XTD 130 land. And in that weight segment I personally do not want a full on touring sole - I prefer WTR/GW type soles. A 1500gr+ tech specific boot seems a bit odd, though I am sure it will ski well. For comparison - my 25.5 XTD 130 with Intuition ProTours and Booster straps weigh in at 1380gr.

That said, they did feel rather light when I manhandled a pair a ways back, though the 99mm last means that I am out.

I have the brick red Lupo AX HD. It's definitely a 110 flex as it uses the C Tongue. At 215 lbs, I was flexing right through it. Lucked out and found a "B" tongue and although I can still flex it quite a bit, much stiffer than the C tongue.

funny that they're discussing working with 9523-compatible touring binding while showing photos of the boot walking in a CAST system.

Ya seriously. I would never consider touring on anything other than a tech binding so this boot looks rad to me.
And tech has been around for over 30 years now...

Marketing showcase, gotta keep the brands together. Too bad Look doesn’t make their own touring binders.

What binding were you in? While I get the love for all-metal bindings, I really don't think anyone can say that an STH2 16 will hold someone back...

A GripWalk pad itself skis no differently than a dual-density ISO 5355 pad and it's way better than a full rubber touring sole.

Are you surprised that people are focusing on / obsessing over the weight of a touring specific item?

Especially when the first info that comes out anchors peoples' expectations 15% lower than the actual weight, where that change also arguable moves the product from one segment to another?

A 1520gr 4 buckle, 99mm last touring boot ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of folks, but there are already more than a few really strong options in that segment.

Questions about the sth2 mnc binding

    1) will the sth2 13 also become mnc?
    2) ramp delta?
    3) will the afd be obtainable and usable with current/prior sth2 bindings?

    Anyone know?

As an older dude who's knees and other shit is breaking down I'm becoming acutely aware of the grams. For me, those grams would directly equate to vert - at this point I could almost derive an equation on the relationship between grams and vert. Same for my wife. Further, at a tender 220lb and someone who drives skis from the tongue of the boot, and folds 110 flex boots like a burrito, this class of +/- 1,300 gram "130" flex boots is of acute interest. My XTD 130's at 1,508 grams ready to go have been a game changer. (Now I just wish I could find a good replacement liner for that ball sucking sock they put in it as a liner.) Love to see this part of the market getting filled up with a variety of fit options and incrementally lighter weights, helps keep me in the game.

Also WTF is that "transfer switch" - that looks like the very first that's going to break on every pair of those bindings.

My knees suck, and of course everyone is different, but I think weight matters less than functionality. Give me a good range of motion and proper flexing and damp skis and boots and my knees feel way better. A truly stiff 1309g boot is either going to feel like a brick wall or super chattering with super aggressive rebound transferring everything into your body. I’ll say that weight affects my back though. But that’s mainly backpack weight.

Almost worthy of another thread but I think functionality is way more important and that 90% of skiers don’t even consider weight unless they are looking at the 100% touring segment. If the boot and binding functions properly and allows you to move naturally and use the proper muscles and ROM, people would be a lot happier than the opposite.

Source: bootfitter for 15 years and primarily sells crossover boots at a rowdy mountain. I have only had one customer ask about weight this year.

I’m not a fan of rockered boot boards. They make footbeds feel like garbage as the arch gets accentuated by the step down. And who actually pushes off with their toes when they are touring?

I had the zero g pro 1400g,130. Shitty liner, of you replace it with a better one, you're at 1550.

I replaced these with the dynafit hoji free, 1650g, good liner, and much better range of motion.

I not see any difference in uphill speed, but this is the first bc boot that skis like a real alpine boot, 130.

A shitty skiing boot can cost a lot of energy on the down, which is the reason i go out.

I must admit to reconsidering my stance on the XT# Pro Tours after a big day out on xt3 130s. If they tour even better, and ski only marginally worse - then I might seriously consider getting a pair. XT3 130lv are great boots, both for touring and even more so for resort riding imho.

I am also very happy with my XTD 130s, but I am not as big a fan of the ProTour liners that I use them with. They walk well, but the fit in toe box is just too snug aka cold because they do not stay compressed, the tongue too soft and the walk mechanism makes them have like zero aft flex. So there is def room for a bit of improvement as touring specific/exclusive setup.

I have never tried rockered boot boards to be honest, and thought it sounded like somebody had been thinking a bit too muh - aka a bad idea.

Just for clarification, I’m picturing a rockered boot board to be flat heel-ramped arch-flat toe. I’m not sure what you’re picturing or whatever else it may be.

Try using the new Mimic liners in your XTD 130s before you give up on them. The tongues are stiff AF

I put Mimic liners in my old XTD 130s and they make a massive difference in skiing quality for me. This is compared to Pro Tours and the stock liners. Only downside to Mimics is the lack of laces—I get more movement while climbing, but with some tape and good socks and I haven’t had blister issues.

These boots are awesome! Easy to walk in, comfortable to stand in, and ready for whatever you can throw at it on the down. The boots felt light on the feet on the way up, scrambled well and had plenty range of motion. Soft blower snow or crust; these boots actually felt like ski boots with no unwanted play. My feet were actually toasty warm all day as well. Perfect boot for anyone who wants a dedicated touring boot outside of their regular resort pair.

this from one of my staff who got a pair of the new Lange Tours he's coming from Roxa 130s

gonna echo the Nerd here but level up with them skiing no differently than single component soles. anyone saying that they need din soles cause they shred too hard for GW soles is getting bad advice or reading too much internets. the yeah but world cup argument died in 2004.
