Early season conditions exist, un marked hazards are present. Pioneer hike off Crest is open, have proper gear (beacon, shovel, probe, and partner), and know how to use it. Terrain off Pioneer hike is not avalanche mitigated, rescue could be delayed.

Brighton posted this today prominently as daily blurb on Ski Utah site. Pioneer hike accesses some nice trees but once that is done and people head further up the ridge it is all serious terrain. Just seems like a strange thing to be pushing.

Sup with the kitty? No line there?

Edit: I see they are running the kitty line out the other way. Wow...

Was nice to drive by the half full Collins lot at 7:15 and park with ease at the summer road. Fun day lapping Black Bess, Freeland, and City Rocks. Someone skied over a roll and pulled out a pocket ~75-100 ft wide below East Bowl Pass above Michigan City. Other than that, no instabilities noted on the S/SW facing slopes. Still some rocks, but riding conditions all time, by 2020/21 winter standards.
Plenty of people out, but not crowded and everyone enjoying and sharing the stoke.

The LCC gongshow delivered as expected. Ive never seen a consistent line at Collins as bad as today (pushing an hour wait time). The lines were pretty soul crushing tbh. Hard to imagine a more perfect storm (COVID, sketchy backcountry, first legit powder day, etc.), but still, I hope Alta leadership takes a good and hard look at how to improve things because it's bad and will only get worse as Utah's population grows.

That said, the first line down high boy did not suck. And there were still untracked lines in the usual spots as late as 1 PM (when this photo was taken) when I bounced.Name: 20210123_124424.jpeg

WASATCH STOKE, CONDITIONS, OBSERVATIONS and ASSORTED DRIVAL 20-21

I skied over at Solitude today. First chair eagle, Powderhorn was open immediately so I let the line just build up huge there and lapped eagle several times. Excellent skiing and snow quality this morning off Eagle.

then over to Apex skied some trees off Apex then the crowds descended upon the place. Echo the notion of soul crushing lines I think we waited in line at Apex 45 minutes once and then 2 laps on sunrise until we caught the rope drop into summit.

I got an untracked headwall and it was over knee-deep and extremely good skiing. The line at Summit was the longest I have ever seen it and we bailed.

Overall it was a faith renewing day, nice to actually float on powder again.

I only got one shitty picture of the Powderhorn line but I’ll share it

Longest lines I’ve ever seen at the bird today. Was first chair at gad2....STH was outstanding.

Made the mistake of thinking the line for second run at had 2 was to long...gadzoom stretched to cat crew cutoff. Hiked to Wilbur.

what's the Veuve tent? that sounds like a good way to take break from tailgunning skiers narrowly missing you near lift corrals.

Minimal red snake, still finding untracked snow at the bird at 3, fanfuckingtastic first run on Peruvian. I got nothing to complain about.

Ikon Pass here and 4th season as a local. I enjoy skiing powder but damn, those were some clown level crowds in BCC/LCC. I live close to mouth of BCC and decided to go to DV to escape the crowds and enjoy the southwest flow. I pulled out around 7:30 or so and Wasatch was backed up all the way to 215. I got up to DV around 8:40 and was on the lifts around 9:15 or so. Never waited much more than a few minutes for a lift and had a great day. Funny enough, I ran into a guy who was up at Alta at 8 am and decided to reverse course and go to deer valley to salvage his day around 10 am haha.

    Fun skiing today.

Pretty wild crowds this morning getting up the canyon but seemed relatively quiet out there once we left the parking lot.

I was on Gadzoom at 915 and right onto Little Cloud without a wait. Telling myself how good the lap was to forget not getting another with a shorter wait than anywhere else is almost working.
I had a great afternoon at the Bird yesterday. Less fresh with no crowds.

Cougartown Park City. I think that it is actually called The Apres Lounge at The Montage. Orange Yurt. Champagne flows like water. Lots of Kjus, Bogner, Admunsen and Sailer. Expensive, decadent and potentially dangerous. I mentioned it tongue in cheek.

So today was good. Hung with dibs and his buddy in the north. Road was fun on the way up with spinners and sliders. But snow was really good and crowds were minimal. Too damn cold and good pow for too many photos. But here’s a few...

Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

I’m in that first pic, the crowds today were epic. Left WA for snow just like at home. Had some good turns, but loading our third lift at 1100 was painful.

I was deterred by the snow report and drive in the snow, but it looks like this would have been the right call. Did you guys ride chairs, take cat rides or skin?

longest i waited at snowbasin today was 2 minutes. filled in a bit on jp in the afternoon. dense snow and had fun.. it's not the cottonwoods, but it's also not the crowds *shrug guy*. still crowded as hell just have to choose your lifts right.

was on the last turn down to strawberry and stopped real quick seeing some snowboarders walking up. I yelled down 'why are you guys hiking up' and they said it was shorter to hike it then wait in the gondola. thanked them for their research and headed back to jp via penny lane.
