skinned MRG Saturday morning. Was hoping to go to the top, but the only thing worthy of testing new skis on was the practice slope. I was a day late it seems.

Bummed to be missing opening day at Saddleback tomorrow. I’ve got a follow up surgeons appointment and first on the list of questions is the ability to ski again soon. Below is copied from an excited Saddlebacker... the place got good vibes and stoke!

“ ‘Twas the night before opening, and all through the land, Dreams were of ski trips already planned. The boards were all tuned, coats put out, so in the morning, early, we could all get out.
The mountain had rested for way too long, the air would now be filled with the skier’s song. Ole Andy chafed and paced by the door; an opening this momentous he’d not been through before.
The mountain team had been working ‘round the clock. The public Relations they left to man called Doc. Too many to mention, some names I don’t know, they really have put on a heck of a show.
They have worked and toiled, this team that was assembled, worked as a machine very well oiled. This team came from near and far, they travelled by truck and car. They came because you see, there is this man called Quimby.
The faithful, all waiting patiently to ski, this was the day we’d longed to see. We’d been faithful, we’d been clever, we’d not once uttered the word never.
So on to the Rangeley, on to the Kennebago it’s to the top of the mountain we want to go. Arctaris has given us a chance at this snow.
We will honor the requests from this magnificent team, for under our masks we will all certainly beam. So thanks team Saddleback, you have given us our mountain back.
We raise our cup of cheer and wish we could sit in the pub together, and buy you a beer. Next year. Until such time, in our thoughts and hearts you will always be near.
    Thank you all.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, may peace and health be you”

    Story here:

    https://nyskiblog.com/plattekill-tower-pad-day/
I am thinking about heading up to plattekill
On Thursday to stretch my legs and clear my head. I’ve been there before and I know that they open the lifts on storm days but with the official opening on Saturday I’m assuming they won’t . I’ve skinned it a few times and as long as I keep clear of the snowmaking it should be a great day to start the season.
An I missing anything covid related that I should about. Any information would be appreciated

Stratton is weird to ski at. I’ve seen more guys 55+ with no mask on then anyone, women are the same. It actually seems the younger people are the only ones following rules strangely enough. They ask you if you want to ride three on the six pack if there are three singles. I’ve rode alone a few times. Once with one other person and probably 15 times with two other people of which the first thing they do is make small talk with no mask on.... then they tell you about how back the virus is.... with no mask on.

I’m not the mask police and I’m a big proponent of no mask and have orgies instead, but it is very intriguing to watch this experiment. To add to the hysteria... I’ve purposely asked people if they were local... 2 people have been... with one guy telling me he was just up for the weekend and then he got a look of panic... I told him to chill and asked if he wanted a puff.

It seems that the level of give a shit about the virus is very low and a bunch of people just provide lip service to make others feel better and cause it’s the cool thing to do...

I'm 55+ and I follow the rules and try to help the areas by gently reminding others. If you don't think that masks/social distancing help, see the numbers below:

Vermont hasn't been successful at keeping the virus generally at bay because we're a rural state with low population density (how much closer are we to the biggest metropolitan area in the country than North Dakota?) as some suggest; we've been successful because the governor and (most of) the people are following the science.

It's likely not going to matter though because people are going to come for Christmas, not follow the rules and generate a super-spreader event at Stratton or Okemo or Killington or Sugarbush or Stowe and that will be it for our lift-served ski season.

15º bob with a non generous 9/16" of snow overnight. Wind was howling at 5:30 but calmed down after daybreak, now a series of random gusty periods.

Mask use among the light crowd I encountered at the bush Sunday afternoon was 100% from what I saw.

With central VT missing the coming storm and no major snow to arrive before the 25th it could become Fight Club around the bush if they don't cap visitors soon. The amount of terrain that is skiable at both mountains isn't much. After they finish from Ripcord to the base on W/Th they can start on GH for Monday opening. Then some infill of Bravo. snorth™ is even more bleak with a single ribbon top2bottom and the side spur of Elbow at this point. '92/'06 repeat.

Saw far I've only seen 2 mask violaters at the bush, both of them employees.

Anyone been riding the Gondi at K or elsewhere? Should I avoid completely or will it be a ghost town tomorrow and no worries?

For once and for all, it's not the skiing, as long as the gondolas are single ride and corrals are distanced. Its everything else. Are restaraunts open in Vermont? Bars? Breakfast rooms? Are the markets (which can be really tight) crowded? How about lodges on mountain? Those are the places it will spread.

The one and only, grew up 2 miles south. The debauchery that occurred on that little bump back in my youth is book worthy...well, short story at least.
