I always ponder whether the new season starts with the new ski movie releases...or are they still part of last season because that's when they were filmed?
Anyways, I'll be driving-in at the Art Haus tomorrow evening for the matchstick flick. See you there?

I'd been thinking this was a chipmunk, but turns out it's a Ground Squirrel...
Got out today. Was nice to see the sky.

golden mantled, but you can still call it a chipmunk and we'll know what you mean

Wikipedia says that marmots, prairie dogs, and chipmunks are ground squirrels.
"The ground squirrels are members of the squirrel family of rodents (Sciuridae), which generally live on or in the ground, rather than trees. The term is most often used for the medium-sized ground squirrels, as the larger ones are more commonly known as marmots (genus Marmota) or prairie dogs, while the smaller and less bushy-tailed ground squirrels tend to be known as chipmunks."
Now what to do with this useless piece of information. (I've been calling the golden mantled ground squirrels Belding's ground squirrels for years, which is completely wrong.) In any case we must be in for a big winter because the resident ground squirrels have been unusually industrious of late.
You can tell by the cheek blazes...

Who the hell decided to put the east Truckee roundabout at Church St instead of DPR, with it's 4-way stop? Seems braindead to me, but maybe they anticipated a lot of traffic coming down cemetery hill and turning left into the railyard development once it's built out? Still don't understand why the DPR 4-way isn't a roundabout.

Are you talking about the 3 way stop/4 way intersection at DPR and Bridge? (In front of Bar of America). It's been that way to allow NB traffic on Bridge to flow freely and not back up on the train tracks. (Although the tourists stop anyway). The plan is to but a stop light at that intersection that can be regulated according the train activity--presumably if a train is coming NB traffic on Church will get a green light until the barriers go down. I think they considered a roundabout but decided there wasn't enough room. If you're talking about a different intersection my apologies..
I assume the roundabout at Church is in anticipation of Railyard traffic, although we'll all be dead by then. And BTW it's not DPR anymore. E of Bridge it's now Truckee Way. Get with the program. (And I'm pissed they couldn't find room for Spud in the area.)
Truckee passed the STR ordinance last night with minimal changes from the last draft.
People with existing ADU's will be able to STR them. New ones can't. Max occupancy is number of bedrooms plus two. All parking must be on the property and paved. Bear boxes and two can service required. A noise ordinance affecting everyone, not just STR's. All STR restrictions, fines, and suspension of STR privileges apply to all violations at registered STR's, whether or not the property was being STR'd at the time. I would think that would mean it applies to ski leases, if the property is registered for STR's at other times of the year or even if it's the owner occupying at the time. Fire inspections inside and out required. No grills or fire pits within 10 feet of the property (state fire code applying to all houses. I suspect a lot of us are in violation of that one)
Seems that trashing the beaches and lakeshores is merely superficial as there is a whole lotta trash lurking underneath the azure waters of Lake Tahoe and Donner Lake.
This story gives a whole new meaning to the art of trash collecting/waste management...

Ski leases more than 30 days would not fall under STR jurisdiction without some statewide updates and rulings. California law gives tenants rights and protections to anybody leasing longer than 30 days. The property would be considered the tenants' home under every state legal precedent.
The fines and suspension of STR leasing privileges are against the renter, the owner, or both. I don't believe late night parties, garbage left out for wildlife, parking on the street or neighbor's properties and the like are protected by any tenant rights. Jurisdictions can also define legal occupancy numbers of any house or apt, regardless if it is a long term rental, short term rental, or owner occupied. There are no restrictions in the ordinance that the Town could not impose on every dwelling unit in town if it chose--which it did for the noise ordinance. The noise ordinance BTW is subjective--no decibel standard. Up to the police or code enforcement officer to decide. Quiet hours from 10 p to 7a or 8 I think.
Prefer not to ship so posting here first, have some Praxis GPO’s 192, flex 4’s I’m thinking about selling, these things love to be skied fast and I don’t like going that fast anymore, guessing less than 15 days on them. I’ll probably move the bindings to another ski.
Mounted on the line with dukes and 306 BSL .
Shoot me a pm if interested and will see if we can make an agreeable deal

Some animal maybe dragged it out onto the trail? Hard to believe people would’ve been riding by for very long...

Also re Truckee STR and housing laws, like OG said the town is well within its right to have occupancy limits. And compared to other outdoorsy towns, Truckee is being pretty generous with allowing number of bedrooms plus two. Boulder, CO currently allows no more than 3 non-related people in a housing unit, regardless of number of bedrooms. Talk about NIMBYs

My bad.
Title 24 (CA building code) Part 9 paragraph 308.1.4 State ban on grills and fire pits within 10 feet of the house or combustible materials does not apply to 1 and 2 family houses. In Truckee the ban applies to all STR's. The fire chief did not make the state rule clear at the council meeting. The council members thought it applied to everyone. So did I. It does apply to gas and charcoal both, and the local ban on charcoal during fire season applies to everyone.
Sacto hitting 100F by Monday. Worrying about passes and Covid may be moot this coming "winter".

UPDATE: setup already sold locally...
Re-posting from gear swap.
I'm looking for a South Lake Tahoe local to pick up a local sale on a touring setup. I am currently in the Bay Area and won't be in Tahoe for potentially a few months. Is there anybody in SLT who is driving to the Bay Area (or possibly Sacramento) in the future, or wouldn't mind stashing the setup at their place for awhile? It's a big ask but I'd really appreciate it and would throw in cash and beer money too.
Thanks!
