    Nice Work!

I'm in the playoffs for my league right now. 24 teams and top 16 get in. We have lowest combined hcp so get our asses kicked with good scores most of the time. We snuck in at 14th and won our first playoff match last week.

Last night we came into last hole all square...3 shot par 5 from the tees we played (oddly enough it's possible two shot hole from back tees because you can't cut corner closer to trees)

5w down the pipe...6i to 105 in to elevated green. At this point I knew my next shot was likely the difference maker...opponents were on but about 30' from pin...partner wasn't gonna birdie from where he was. Took a deep breath, stepped over the ball and struck it pure...right at it.

Couple buddies were done with their match and were up at the green watching us come up. As my ball hits I hear a loud OOOHHH! so I know I'm real close. I get up there and they tell me I slowly lipped out on the high side...ball 6" away past the hole.

They missed and I got the gimme for the win. Playing my buddies that were watching next week in our final four match.

    LFG!!!

Old Fart Couples Golf and used to be Dinner League Season Finale 18 hole field days yesterday. 42 front with a quadruple and a double. 39 into the house for 81 and won $10 for low gross. Flushed my power fade off 18 tee. Hit a 90 yd 2nd to 3 feet pin high. Someone asked later, "How did you shoot a 39 on the back?" "I missed a 3 footer on 18 for a 38" I said. Mrs Wooley won $5 for most putts in a round of 128 shots.

I played three rounds in two days this weekend. The last round was a money game, where I forgot my pushcart, so I carried my bag. I'm dead tired.

Heading to Pinehurst in a couple weeks, have rounds booked at Tobacco Road and Dormie Club with plans to play either #2 or #4 at Pinehurst proper. I have room for one more round, thinking Mid Pines - any advice?

Good lord my putting is killing me, guy I played with yesterday told me with my swing I ought to be 5 to ten shots better then I am! Any tips on how to change that? The 2 to 3 footers kill me

We are probably heading down sometime in October.
Our already paid trip got postponed due to boyfriend’s shoulder surgery in June.

Missing short putts is 99% in your (and my) head. So practice making 100 short putts. On the practice green on the living room rug. You're probably peeking so keep your head still.

Carded a 82 yesterday. Would have been 80 except for two missed three footers.

Shorten your backswing on short putts and keep the putter head low. Consciously accelerate through the strike. Focus on where the ball is going in the hole.

Good Times Were Had. I was able to sneak down and play Harding Park. Course was a little socked in but very enjoyable. The rough was still over 3 inches. I lost 1 ball in it and found about 8. You really had to hit a 8 iron or more just to try and free yourself and get back to the fairway. Fairways are still cut narrow for the upcoming Steph Curry Tourney. Any wayward shot simply disappeared in the deep rough. No bounce, no roll, just buried. My yardages were a little off to start and I got bucked a little by the rough finished stronger. 50 - 43 with 2 birds on the back. Oh and 3:10 from SLT to Harding Park is unheard of. Drove through Sac at 70+ at 9am. This world will not be the same one we left.

In my limited experience playing Harding they keep the course really soft if there’s not a pro tournament coming up.

Helps to play on good greens too.

I play my league on a gorgeous course with shit greens...slow and untrue. 3-4 footers are a complete joke there...ball goes wherever its wants

I think this is a Big part of the problem. Untrue, varying speeds. I go to a course with good greens I putt better. Not good, but better.

I don’t know. Some pros go all year without missing anything inside 5 Feet. Mostly because they aren’t afraid to run it by. Blaming poor greens for missing 3-4 footers is lack of confidence to run it by the hole. I’m guilty of that and I know it’s not the quality of the putting surface. Speed and surface matter on longer putts.

Did you ever notice how when a pro misses inside of five feet, he taps down an imaginary imperfection on the line?

Less now that spike mark rule was changed but yeah you never want to think it was a problem with loft.

Not what I see. Tapping down an imaginary bump after a short miss is a Golf 401 mind trick for the brain to stay confident. Never blame yourself in competition. Blame the green. Blame yourself on the practice green. I realize my short putt misses are when don't go through my putting routine. Plum bob for the line. Assess the Slope. Pick a aim point. Make two or four practice swings while looking at the hole to feel the pace, tempo. Set club behind ball. Look at hole. Look at ball and as soon as the number on the ball is in focus. Repeat the practice swing. Don't look up until the ball is in the hole. Or not.

I played on the best greens I've ever seen last weekend at Troon North, I definitely think they had a major positive impact on putts <10'.
