WASHINGTON—Dismissing the statistics as “totally overblown,” President Donald Trump publicly accused New York health officials Monday of inflating the state’s Covid-19 mortality rate by including African Americans in their calculations of the total dead. “It’s very unfair if you start adding in a bunch of people who died of the virus but were also very clearly black,” said Trump, who pointed to Texas, with its incomplete data-gathering and low rates of testing in minority communities, as a model other states should emulate. “Obviously, if you count blacks, it’s going to throw off your estimates of how bad this thing is. We’re doing a fantastic job containing the virus, but sadly some governors are stooping so low as to fake their numbers—not only with blacks, but with people born in other countries, too. You gotta ask whether they’re just doing this to try and make me look bad.” The president went on to demand that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo personally apologize to him for harboring African Americans to begin with.

And it's not "just the flu" if you are under ~60. Lower probability for those under 60 doesn't mean lower probability for those under 60 compared with the flu.

Comparing COVID deaths to influenza deaths is like comparing apples to oranges. The charts show counted confirmed deaths while flu deaths are estimates. Comparing counted deaths to counted deaths shows COVID is many times more deadly even for those under 60.
There are only 5 states with rising cases: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/...-us-cases.html

When I'm saying "just the flu", I'm referring to the death rate which is below .1% in an average year. It's only when you start approaching the 50+ bracket that you start seeing comparable rates. Below 50 it's far less than .1%.

Please don’t engage Ron Jeremy in discussion.

Hopefully he will retreat to the poly ass climate change thread from whence he spawned.

No, this addresses people that are in shape and less than 60.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the whooshing sounds.

Where did I say that people in shape and less than 60 can't get sick from the virus?

The other funny (but not funny) thing about the "economy" crowd is that they don't think about the economic cost of a death. That 45 year old with underlying issues that would have otherwise lived to 80? He/she had a lot of consuming and GDP-ing to go over the next 35 years. The 75 year old that dies would have otherwise been contributing to the economy for 5, 10, 20 years. Even if you want to be cold hearted and only look at the economic impacts, opening everything up and letting nature take its course is actually worse long term for the economy.

It's insanity. When and how to reopen is a legitimate debate. Choosing not to wear a mask is just being a cunt.

Health care workers “were” being extra cautious in their spacesuits? Why the past tense here - you think they’ve stopped being extra cautious?

Yeah sorry I’m not familiar with your history on here but your posts today suggest you just like being argumentative by narrowing your comments to one specific point at the cost of discussing a much more complicated reality.

Everything you’ve brought up has been discussed in this thread before - if you can’t read through it and deal with more than black or white / lockdown or freedom / “flu has to be the same as covid or my worldview is shattered” then no one here can help you.

I suggest you try the Breitbart comment section - you’ll find the emotional support and the false equivalencies you desire there.

NY Times isn't good enough for k2. Your site appears to be useless for what we are talking about - whether the curve has been flattened or not. Your site simply shows how many new cases there are.

We often disagree. But we quickly agree to disagree. Instead of beating a dead horse for ages.

Ron Jeremy makes steep seem normal.

I’ve never used the ignore button. But he’s tempting me.

I guess I should have said "are" instead of "were".

How am I not discussing a much more complicated reality? That's kind of the point I've been trying to make. The data suggests that a one size fits all approach is not appropriate.

The "it's just the flu" is half in jest - the point is it's much less severe than thought for many people.

I always heard it as “may you live in interesting times”.
I kept saying it in the beginning of the rona. So much so, my wife told me to shut the fuck up.
    More than once.
