My 14 yo is making a desk out of 2x8s glued together. He's going mostly off YouTube and doesn't really want my input except when he's stuck (down a dead end that could have been avoided had he asked for directions). My investment so far is a new circular saw blade (because it was time for a new one) and my time to cut the ends even. He's got his first coat on of whatever it was he decided to use and has more sanding to do. He managed to get it fairly level which is good because we don't have a planer. He'll do alright and have a better idea for next time. He wouldn't hear of using either a jig or attaching cleats for gluing as our clamps are not long enough for a desk. I hope the bond is sturdy. I didn't cut enough off the ends to test it.
