Fred Hutch scientist Trevor Bedford, who is cited a lot for his genetic mapping of the virus, says a lack of genetic diversity suggests an emergence in Wuhan, China sometime in Nov 2019. If it was earlier than that, we would see more mutations and more genetic diversity.

Its very easy to skew a number if you have a very small amount of solid data and you make up the rest. Not knowing how many people are non-symptomatic is a HUGE fucking deal. The world has only tested people with symptoms, and cats, and professional athletes. You are missing a major part of an equation.


I believed everything that was said 6 weeks ago. We made a call based on the present data. We now have emerging data that shows large populations of non-symptomatic people. IF you ignore that, you are a fucking idiot, see above.

Speaking of suppressing the truth, I read an article -definitely in either the Washington Post or the NYTimes- a couple days ago about the origin of the virus and it speculated that it was at least possible that it started in the US. The idea is that Ft. Detrick in Maryland is the US' main bioweapons research facility. China's main facility is in Wuhan. The two facilities have cooperated on bioweapon development (!) in the past according to the article. Ft. Detrick was closed unexpectedly for 2 weeks for "security" reasons in the early fall (not sure of the dates, I could have them wrong).

The interesting thing is not so much the theory the perhaps the virus was originally released in the US and infected somebody from Wuhan who may have been in the US when that happened and carried it to China, where it spread. What's interesting is the article seems to have vanished. I have googled this 10 ways from Sunday and I can't find it. But I read it. I hadn't seen that article before but it does reference the closure(s) I was talking about. There's other articles from around that time frame that mention them too. But the article I read was from just a couple days ago and took that closure info in a different direction. It's just odd that I can't find it again.

If you’ve got Hulu, A&E is streaming a documentary called Inside Story: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off now. Watched it in conjunction with watching the movie the other night too. Would highly recommend.
