Feel good answer but it ignores the ramifications of stress, poverty on both quality and longevity of the kids life.

Its near term gain vs long term harm.

    Make that decision more succinctly

Should we as a nation exchange 2 years of life expectancy for a 8 year old to keep grandpa alive for 2 more years.

Given our national focus on quarterly earnings, concentration of wealth in the elderly and their utility to the powers that be as a voting block the selected strategy is obvious.

The banks should have been left to fail on '08 and the airlines should be left to fail now.
There's little moral hazard in a pandemic, the '08 Great Recession was caused by tight money, and bubblemongering is an intellectual dead end.

Are you saying because that two year old might starve to death or be harmed irreparably due to economic downturn? Obviously that's where the government needs to step in to protect people. It shouldn't be a zero sum game.

Time for a health worker strike. Open eveything up, close all the hospitals. Free the oppressed and let them fend for themselves when they get sick.

To appeal beyond his mouth breathing base has literally nothing but the economy to run on for reelection. That's it. If it's gone he's fucked. He's a cornered animal.

Me I'm good with it, let's do some national isolation and get kids back in school

thought it was interesting that despite all the reports of stir crazieness, most do not go out except to go back in somewhere else.
But that's out of a 24 hour day. So 8% is around 2 hours spent outside. That's actually more than I would have expected.

What the fuck is the holdup for testing? Especially antibody testing? Seems like that'd be a good way to start to open the economy.
