Well, of course, this sort of thing was inevitable. What a horrible little man.

"Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Thursday that China’s loss might be America’s gain, because the coronavirus outbreak could prompt employers to move jobs to the United States.

“I don’t want to talk about a victory lap over a very unfortunate, very malignant disease,” Mr. Ross said in an interview on Fox Business. “I think it will help to accelerate the return of jobs to North America. Some to the U.S., probably some to Mexico as well.”

Mr. Ross cited previous disease outbreaks in China, suggesting that a prevalence of diseases there would become a factor in businesses leaving the country and relocating to North America.

“You had SARS, you have the African swine virus there, now you have this,” Mr. Ross said.

His remarks may be seen as insensitive to a country in crisis, and he has faced such criticism in the past. During the government shutdown in early 2019, Mr. Ross suggested that furloughed workers should take out loans while they went without pay for more than a month."

I worked with a crew of aussies and kiwis and they said they could tell the difference a block away, but I found them to be homogenous.

Ha, maybe, I would bet quite a few Japanese people would notice the difference though. The stereotypical obnoxious American tourist is probably found more in Euroland though than Japan so that may make guessing hard. The Chinese act more like us, they may not even notice quiet Canadians?

Oh, no, the Chinese tourist is on a whole other level of rudeness. They will not be missed all over the world for a few months. Their money, yes, but not them.

The Pub had Guinness on a sliding scale.
    Something like 50 cents at 3pm, $1 @ 4pm, $2 @5pm, $5 @ 6pm.
Is that still a thing? Not sure if any Frasier locals in here.
Jamison was a bargain too. Paddy’s day was a junk show.

I had a meeting scheduled today (here in Europe) with a client and they called me up early in the morning to say that they would like to postpone. They knew I was in China ~2 weeks ago and "for their employees safety" they cancelled the face-to-face meeting and asked if we could do this via a TC or whatever.

I'm healthy and fine, and was in Shanghai, not Wuhan, really before everything started getting going, but all I could do was say 'I understand, of course' and go along.

Interesting time to work for a Chinese company, that works on long-term FTE-based projects, for a global client base.

I see the WHO just declared a public emergency of international concern.

Checking in. I just walked off my Air China flight, Beijing to San Fran, with out a single person/system checking any of the sweaty, fever, running nose looking passengers.
Yesterday in China I had my temperature checked on 4 different occasions, including the restaurant lobby at my dinner buffet. No bat soup last night, but some other good stuff:
