I so want to go up to Basin tomorrow but I will lose my mind if I get stuck on 70 in either direction. It's still closed EB from a jackknifed semi, happened a couple+ hours ago. On dry roads.
Facepalm. Like it wasn't expected.

And here I thought if I got up early enough I could get through before the inevitable. Oh well. Guess it’ll be a work day

Looks like Freemont is closed now also. Gotta detour the detour. The ditch on Trough road will be full soon enough. When is Berthoud gonna close? I feel like that road ain't living up to it's reputation. It used to be, "People don't go to Winter Park because they don't like to drive Berthoud".
Just saw this tidbit "Avalanche control work and delays possible at any time on any Colorado mountain roadway without notice." As poor as CDOT is at communication, the driving public is 10X bad and whining and 100X as bad with there actual driving.
Loveland Pass (Grizzly) SNOTEL shows 16" of 10% density. 1.6" of SWE is a huge load to the snowpack, bigger than the last storm cycle, and we got it in about 16 hours. The decade level avalanche cycle may continue. I70 10mile canyon closed due to avalanche.

My wife is so glad I didn't try to go into the mountains today.
70 closed from Empire to Silverthorne. Not going to be doing any skiing today. I’m in Dumont and I can hear avalanches happening.

Is I70 open to skier traffic?
Headed to steamboat tomorrow from denver for the weekend. Getting mentally prepared to have to go either 285 to fairplay or up through fort collins to walden first. I'd give my left nut for either berthoud or the tunnel to be open tomorrow around 1pm.
They opened it recently. At least that's what the internet told me.
OPEN -- Eastbound and westbound I-70 between Silverthorne and Denver. I-70 remains closed between Vail and Copper pending snow removal likely to remain closed until early evening. US 40 Berthoud Pass is open. CO 91, US 24 and US 6 Loveland Pass remain closed.
Hmmm... the most recent I saw was:
"I-70 from Vail to Empire Junction is closed (est. 2-4 hours). CO 91 closed from Copper to Leadville (est. is 1-2 hours). CO 24 at Battle Mountain closed due to Avalanche risk. Loveland Pass is closed due to risks for next 24 to 48 hours. Drier now … next storm is due in 48 hours"
Refresh the page then. It’s open according to cdot
