Say, "sorry, I have a hurt hand so I can't shake yours." Then hold out for a fist bump if appropriate.

    Go straight for the hug.

Wrap your hand in an ace bandage.

Say you're one of those germaphobes who doesn't touch other people.

If I am sick I say so and give the option of nothing or a fist bump. Most people are glad for the heads up and take the fist bump. I usually catch every single fucking cold my kids are exposed to, even the colds that don't make them sick. Fucking carriers. My kid's sports coaches are fine with a fist bump.

Our industry has a few different award ceremonies each year. This guy who started the organization has gotten old and arthritic and he's the one who has always given out the awards and handshakes. A few years back, they switched him to fist bumps in order to save his hands from being crushed with a few thousand handshakes. Always felt that was a reasonable compromise.

that's all it is all the time.

have this almost daily on my commute, i'm getting on the freeway as people are getting off and we are both usually going about 20mph because the off ramp in the morning rush is congested.

so, i'm getting on with blinker on and allowing those exiting right of way because legally they do; there's still never a shortage of assholes that'll speed up to not allow me in for that one car length that saves their commute maybe one second or those pull in from 2 lanes over because they know this section and can usually muscle their way in rather than line up like everyone else has done already.

i'd be writing tickets all day long if I were a cop on people who just cannot be bothered to think that one wrong move in a 3,000 pound vehicle might work out badly for them

90% of my mail goes straight to the bin 9% gets read and then in the bin or shredded 1% of it is stuff I ordered online. 99% waste, I thought the world was trying to be 'greener' but sending me a letter to switch banks or vote for so and so or save the forests (irony) is more important.

    Animals.

November is here and it's cold. 22 yesterday morning, 24 this morning. Time to install stock tank heaters. Cleaned out the donkey's stock tank, got it all nice and sparkly clean, installed a nice new drain plug heater, plugged it in and filled it up. Thought to myself "won't the donks be happy to have a nice clean tank full of warm water" but noooooooooooooo! That red thing in the bottom of the tank is scary! It's going to jump up and bite us! So after all my work yesterday I was forced to bring them buckets of warm water by hand. Damn animals!

Well I'm glad someone loves it. I'm going to try floating red delicious apples in the tank to desensitize them to the red thing on the bottom.

~225 men onsite today. Seattle. Raining. Muddy. Probably 10 in tuffs, 5 in mucks, zero in Purofort, and about 30 in Tingley’s. Most have cold soaked thorogoods and redwings, or leaky danners.

Heh. Tingley's. I grew up wearing those. We had a small back to the land farm, not a lot of money, and they were relatively cheap at Agway. I hated those boots. Galoshes by another name. The most uncool thing I could have worn at that age in a school that was 1/3 farm kids and 2/3 suburb kids. They did keep one's feet dry and mine didn't smell like cowshit which was a bonus. However, my dad, ever resourceful, was fond of patching them with an inner tube patch. Insult to injury.

I wear Mucks on the regular. Nice boots, but can wear out fast. Delamination sucks on otherwise good boots.

3/4 of the guys on the site where I’ve been working are in xtratuffs the others are in thorogoods. It stopped being wet here and is now icy and tuffs have the best traction on the iron.
