If you want something faster and more dependable in corners, get a narrower tire.

Think of it like a snow tire on a car - they're narrower, so they slice through the soft stuff on top to get better purchase. To some extent, wide bike tires are similar. The extra width means a bigger contact patch, which means less pressure on any one knob, which (sometimes) means less cornering traction. That isn't a universal truth, but you'll tend to get a more concrete, locked in feeling in corners with a slightly narrower tire that still has substantial side knobs.

2.3 DHF 3C Front, 2.3 Aggressor DC rear.

The 2.3 Tomahawk 3C could be considered, but it's definitely lower volume than a 2.4 Ardent, depending on what you're running in the rear.

You could also consider a 2.5 DHF DC or 2.4 DHR2 DC, both will certainly grip better than an Ardent, while rolling significantly better than a 2.6 DHF 3C.

Keep in minds the 2.5/2.4 minion's are going to be 100g+ heavier than the 2.4 Ardent.

May also want to consider the 2.6 Rekon 3C if you're ok with a mini-knobby, better compound than the Ardent, similar weight.

2.5 Dual Compounds are 171g heavier than the 2.4 Ardent.

I'm leaning towards the Minion DHF 2.3 3C at the moment. I remember demoing my same bike with those last year and don't recall ever thinking it was sluggish.

I see, what rear tire do you intend to use it with? Either the Aggressor, DHF or DHR2 in 2.3 DC is good.

27.5x2.4 DHR2 DC is 900g btw, or 125g more than the equivalent Ardent.

2.25 Ardent. I've been running them for years along with the 2.4 front. I was just looking to get a little more grip out of the front tire.

Oooooh. Definitely the 2.3 3C Tomahawk then. The DHF 3C is overkill with a small Ardent in the rear.

Is the High Roller 2 passe? Better cornering than AR, less resistance than DHF.

Thinking of ditching my DHR2 in back and giving the good old HR2 another shot...

I don't like the HR2 in the dual compound. At least for conditions 'round here. Sidewalls are a bit too flimsy for my riding style too.

While the 2.3" HR2 is maybe my favorite trail tire out there, it doesn't hold up all that well in the rear. It just gets torn up pretty quickly, at least relative to a DHR2.

A brand new HR2 DC feels exactly like a half worn DHR2 DC to me. So you could just buy a used DHR2 and save yourself some money.

HR2 DC 2.3 is a great rear tire that lasts well.

Good point. Come to think of it, that’s probably why I switched to the DHR2 in the first place. After a couple of seasons I sometimes forget.

It does seem to last well... but holy shit is the traction crappy. At least around here...

New Season, New Tires, New Thread

First pinch flat since installing Huck Norris last year, which I consider a success given my luck with flats over the past two years. I knew in the air that it wasn’t going to be pretty. Minor rim damage that should have been a lot worse. The insert is covered with gashes and holes, so it appears to be doing its job.

The Aggressor just replaced the Ardent as the number one Maxxis tire for QBP. not sure how often they update their 'best selling' logic but, whatever. The Ardent had been #1 for several years running.
