Do you know why I'm eager to switch to biking this time of year?

Because I'm sick and freaking tired of dealing with the resort bullshit. I know, I know that the backcountry is prime but it sure is nice to get away from I-70 and the subsequent gapers that said I-70 is wont to attract.

I'll tell you right now why people are eager to switch to biking this time of year..... they're sick and fucking tired of dealing with resort bullshit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, "but the backcountry is prime", I get it, I do. It's there as an option, but it's sure fucking nice to get away from I-70 and get away from all of the gapers.

PRO TIP: Right now you can mountain bike in Eagle and ski Vail/Beav in the same day.
True, but there’s next to nothing open in Eagle until April 15th.

Do you guys realize how whiny you sound? We’ve had a pretty good run of winters in Co, one turns out shitty so you have to put a little more work in to find good skiing (and yes, it’s out there) and all of a sudden it’s “fuck skiing in Co”. Go ride your bike and stay out of my way.

I've heard there's a forum where they talk about how great mountain biking is. Rhymes with "Empty Beer"

don't think anyone actually thinks fuck skiing. But throwin in other activities sure makes it live again when it gets stale.

Also, I think this is the CO weather thread.

Snowing lightly this morning. Dust on crust or will it be more? Going into work early and hoping for a soft afternoon.

Belen (forgot she left for LA) and Corey aren't slouches either.
To keep this super serious weather thread on target, I started a thread in the general forum about the 14th at the Jane.

Looked like it was raining pretty good at noon at the base, how high did that go?

Does anyone have ytd snow totals for Beaver Creek in 01/02, 03/04, and 04/05? I am finding 195, 221, and 193, but I don't remember those years being that lean. Thanks

    Snowmass was good today.
    Empty too.

How and when the snow falls, is way more important than totals.

Those are right, there was less snow back then but it seemed deeper because people were shorter.

I think the dickweeds on opensnow forum have been discussing that. Use bestsnow.net to find out

    NNW flow BTW

I haven’t been frequenting any dickweed discussions so I really don’t know,

    /slowpitch

but seems fairly logical that the heavy heat and sun in between snowfalls would make 150 this year a bit less plush than 150 in a cold dry year.

Yep. That's why 2012, even if it ends up being less than this year in CB, was actually better. This year, there was basically no snow until Feb., but by then the snowpack was shit and no snow could stick on the steeps. 2012 at least had some terrain open most of the year, even if it wasn't great and there was no snow in March at all.

I have said it before. If your primary passion is ski area skiing and you live in Colorado (Front Range specifically), edit: you are doing it wrong I would honestly love to not move from Colorado ever because there are I million reasons why it works for me, but the quiet lift served powder days are over.

Twenty years ago, you could ski lift served pow for days. Now even the trees are douched out in an hour on a Wednesday. Just how it is. Plenty of other ways to have fun none the less.

This is absolutely true, I've found that in Colorado snow that falls downward and in between the months of October and May usually skis the best.
