Patrol always opens Kachina to hiking before the lift opens.

Back in early Feb, they were loading every other chair on Kachina. Thought it might be a lift issue, but patrol said it was part of their snow preservation plan, during the long term high pressure weather pattern. Once the K chute chokes get scrapped down to rock, it carnage when the Texicans come.

Gotcha. That makes more sense now. I know that chair was super controversial, so that way of managing the terrain seems like a solid compromise. That actually makes it more attractive to me as a potential visitor, honestly.

Yeah, I'll never be a fan of that lift, but I get why it was done. I just wish they had run a shorty up to the saddle and left some for hiking. I'm glad my kids were able to hike it pre lift install.

A bunch of us from here bought the Abasin Pass. Mostly for the late season, but the three day at Taos was definitely icing on the cake.

I hold out hope. They tend to get one monster storm that can be enough snow to open and keep open a decent amount of their terrain.

The Four Corners area seems to have drought years following the really big seasons. At least that's been the case since I moved here 16 years ago. 05/06, 10/11, and now 17/18 being the examples of drought seasons following 350+ inch winters. Being here in Arizona this isn't that strange but to see the southern Rockies still dry as a bone seems pretty weird and scary for our water supply.

Better late than never. The snow returns to Northern New Mexico with more in the forecast.

Patroller lines down Juarez looked quite nice this afternoon. Highline Ridge to Ninos Heros rumored to open soon. Reforma / Blitz also mentioned in possible openings.

Top section of Al's run was poached with style around 1:30pm.

Lots of little trees still out there.

Praise Ullr indeed. We must have done something right as another 12-14" blesses the hills of NNM. Storm came in right side up and stuck to existing base quite well.

Yesterday was a country club day as we took our pick of fresh (and refreshed) lines down Reforma - West Blitz Trees and Highline Ridge.

I have seen a few pics of the terrain surrounding the ski area there and it looks pretty good so what's up with bc touring there?

a lot of the direct side country is Indian Tribal land> seriously Do Not Trespass!

I loved the steeps there..though I would not want to charge there on weak snowpack..its really steep mountain in spots..there's a self arrest dummy usually below one the lifts you ride..to give skiers the idea of how steep some runs are.

The scene is tiny..usually you can mingle w peoples of all types>if you check your judgement at the state line!

Some Hardcore motherfuckers out there / Cops are stationed at the Bars in New Mexico (at least up north there) during the closing time , it has been so out of hand in past years.

hey all, hope your season is turning around well! i have a question. i've always thought about spending a season in taos, never been, seems like a cool place. how would it be doing the van thing? mine is a white stealth work truck, would i be able to chill and be not hassled around the area?
