didn’t they just rework the skid trail down Burrito pass? Mag7 and Navajo Rocks don’t suck. it’s just a lot of work to go fast. seems like the work being done is in the right places, spread the beaters out a bit.
but we have something better than the Whole Enchilada. Brighton to Provo on 157 over Big Baldy. just rode it last sunday and passed zero mountain bikers on 42 miles of dirt.
bumps are for poor people
Complaining about rocks in Moab is like going to the beach and getting pissed off that the water's wet.

The only really shitty doubletrack on Porc Rim is the somewhat lame Koko section above the Rim proper. I've always found the Porc Rim doubletrack to be fast and fun. Lots of B-lines have been created over the years to make it even more fun.
There are a few punchy climbs on the doubletrack that I could do without... maybe that's what the complaint was about?
Agreed!
I think I've seen more flats there from people running shitty, too-light tires and trying to go fast than anywhere else.
Sure, I'd rather have more cool ST instead, but that section can be stupid fun. Go faster and take some of the play lines. Well, the climb bits still suck.

Nobody mentioned any uphill bits sucking. If you don't know what these exact parts are, well, let's argue about something else it's hard to describe. But it's the parts without b-lines, and most of those b-line sections I don't want to slow down for anyways, with certain exceptions. If you know exactly what he is talking about, and think "multiple miles of shitty, uphill square edges" is fun, good on ya. I ride it with a coiled bike and beefy tires, it's a chore. I used to ride it with a hardtail. I'm over that part of the trail.
Smashing down a 20ft wide array of fucked up bedrock is why I go to moab. Room to slam into 'plan B' lines as you pass tourists, zillions of rock doubles that reward you if you make and punish you if you don't........good god son that's why I wake up every morning. The uphill parts just let the tears of joy dry up for the next section of violence. It's a safety thing. I love that section of road more than I love my mother.
With you on most of the newer building sucking though. But I go to moab for about 4 trails and just try to get faster on them and ignore the rest.
Besides the comet that killed the dinosaurs nothing has destroyed a species faster than entitled white people.-ajp
If they built a sick singletrack bypass around that section you would always have the option of riding the road if you want to. Just like you can ride the Goldbar jeep trail instead of Blue Dot on Mag7. No sane person does that, but you can if you want to.
Go faster? Ride the "B-lines"? LOL. I've ridden that trail literally dozens of times since my first time on a hardtail in '94. I've raced it and done well, I've ridden the original notch clean a bunch before the re-route was in. I've made it from Geyser to the river in 2 1/2 hours numerous times. That's not blazingly fast or anything but you don't get through it that quick pussyfooting around, breaking your bike, or flatting. I'm not afraid of rocks or complaining about them. I'm over pounding my body and bikes on that bit and handing out tubes and waiting for everyone else to fix their flats. I could give a fuck about the short climbs, climbing's part of mountain biking. They're just an easier place to pass more people.
What I'm saying is, five more miles of UPS/LPS style singletrack would be vastly preferable to slamming uphill square edges for an hour. Also, the Kokopelli road is like ten minutes out your ride, NBD.
Woo said it, I go to Moab for a handful of trails and increasingly, TWE isn't one of them. Blue Dot/ Portal, Rock Stacker/ Jackson's. The more lines I find, Ahab is really growing on me. Even Pipe Dream is fun, especially both ways. Hell's Canyon is fun to throw into the mix. Did someone say they like Navajo Rocks? LOL, more boring blues. Mag 7 makes it into the 'OK' range, but it's just a warm up for Blue Dot and Portal.
This is a rant thread right? This is just my opinion. I know no-one gives a fuck if I don't want to ride TWE or anything else for that matter.

Jeezus... you had to bring up Hell Canyon? Last time I rode that I had... less than ideal tires and the damned thing pretty much skared me shitless.
Your list of Moab "good stuff" is pretty spot-on, though.
Oh I'm with y'all. Just because I might bitch about a climb here and there doesn't mean they aren't worthwhile!
Blue Dot/Portal and Rockstacker/Jackson's are my two favs out there. Only been on Ahab once so far, but reallyreallyreallyreally liked it.

No it's moab. It's rock.
Just horrible routing that goes neither up nor down for any meaningful length of time, needless meandering just for the sake of meandering, stuff that would never make sense if it were a hiking trail because there's no progress moving forward in any defined direction. Trails that go nowhere other than doubling back on themselves for no reason. Basically the exact opposite of things like amasa and porcupine which made moab famous, for the type of endless shitty routing that is the original slickrock trail.

All the new trails everywhere are built exactly like that. It's a plague. In moab it's especially weird because you can go fall line all day long and never have to worry about erosion. You can also just, not route trails poorly.
You talking Winthrop, WA? That's a shame. So much badass terrain around there. There's no reason for that nonsense.

Oh so kinda like the Darling hill network at Kingdom Trails. Talk about an over concentration of redundancy that goes nowhere really cept for up one side of a dirt road and back the other side of the same dirt road. Way too many fucking trail junctions too. The average trail length must be 1/4 mile long lol meh.
Whenever I see Trail Cancer, I take a deep breath, and think, "yes, we are GROWING THE SPORT and that's always a good thing!"
Quickly- When someone else's dog takes a liking for mine, then abandons their owner and joins me for the next 25 minutes or so.
I mean...it's not my dog and I just want to go for a ride, but I also don't want to leave some poor beast in the middle of the trail network.
