For my money the Rock Razor is the best semi slick out there, having tried the RR, Slaughter and Minion SS. It's gonna be worlds faster than the DHF, just gotta be down with laying the bike over to engage the cornering knobs.

It'll be a lot tougher on roots climbing, you gotta be conscientious about weighting the back tire. Not sure how much that's a factor for you.

If I was still out west I'd be running DHF front/RR rear, maybe Magic Mary front. Swapped the back for an Aggressor so i can get up these damned east coast roots though.

I used the rr with the dh casing(gravity?) in a 26" on my dh bike at silverstar. Most of the time when I'm there it's jump trails. That tire made a big difference . It can have some flatter sections and that tire pumped hard was nice for just coasting and pumping off anything without having to work. Nice setting up for jumps. I did put a little hole thru it on a rock that seemed like it was easier to do than it should have been but all in all, good for that usage. Couldn't imagine running it on our shuttle trails(steep/loose)

Right now I am running hutchinson light python. Fast tire, running it tubeless at low psi I can finesse it on climbs without any slip. I am gussing the RRs should be even better. Those python really dont inspire much confidence in cornering, at 26x2.0 they are a bit too low volume and they downright suck on mud. If the DHF is not in the same league rolling wise as the RR it looks like I should just get front/rear RRs and they should be a big improvement over the pythons.

If you're concerned about rolling speed don't buy minions.

I'm never concerned about rolling speed so I always buy minions.

DHR2 exo 2.3 rear - hans dampf evo trailstar 2.35 front. Tubeless

Coming off conti TK 2.2R/2.4F, Purgatorys before that, TK's before that.

All good tires. Didn't like the DHR as a front.

Maxxis sizing question: So I just ordered a 2.5 DHF 3C exo for the front and 2.4 High Roller II 3C exo for the rear. Is the HR going to actually be wider than the Minion?

Assuming the same size rim, they'll be similar. The 2.4 won't be wider.

Might be in the market for new tires soon. I currently run 2.8 WTB Trailblazers. I'm thinking a 2.8 Trailblazer again in the rear, paired with a 3.0 Ranger up front? (rear clearance is maxed, might have more room up front)

First ride back in Colorado. Ball Bearings seem to be the biggest threat. Feeling like I need to rethink all I know about tire choice as I watch the 2.5 DHF slide out in front of me!
    Help?

I'm sure others will have a different take on the situation, but try something narrower. Kinda like a snow tire - a narrower tire will cut through the loose stuff on top and hook up on whatever's underneath.

Every 2.4 dhr2 I have is bigger than every 2.5 dhf I have. The dhr2s might be bigger than the hr2s though. They end up pretty balloony once they stretch.

I just swapped 2.8 DHF f&r for a 2.8 DHR II front and a 2.8 High Roller II rear. It's dry and dusty here in Western MT. While the DHFs were good for steep, lift serviced riding, i'm enjoying the lower rolling resistance of the DHR/HR2 combo - they feel fast, corner great, and brake well on moderate trail.

Really? I have a 2.5 DHF and a 2.4 DHR2 mounted right now, and while I haven't pulled out the calipers on them, they look the same to me.

But yeah, I think the HR2's usually run a little smaller.

Totally. I've done this on trail bikes/rims/tires and my dh bike/rims/tires.

Every time I end up with a fatter rear tire. Talking 26" here though. It might be a different ballgame in other sizes.

I really wish they'd make those 2.7 minion dhfs in 27.5. Best 26" tire they ever made.

Ah, maybe it's a 26" thing. I'll have to measure mine tonight though.

I'm a MTB tire idiot. New warranty wheel is coming my way, and it deserves a new tire. (Current tire has 2 plugs and is heavily warn.)

Favorite rear for Front Range / CO in general (trips to CB/Steamboat/Gunni etc)? Full squish trail bike, originally specced with a 2.35 Hans Dampf which seemed maybe a bit slow but had good traction. Durability was sort of 'meh'.

    Sounds like a personal problem?

    You're doing it wrong?

Sorry man, I got nothing. I've got thousands of miles on DHFs in CO. Where are you riding?

Yea, of course it's a personal problem. This is my therapist. You're my couch!

Could definitely see room to drop pressure. I'm used to more rim crushing rocks & roots.

To be clear, I'm not talking about not getting down stuff. I'm talking about letting the breaks go on steeper/faster stuff and realizing this surface brakes differently than what I'm used to. Not crying. Just asking for any thoughts.

Ft C. Dry & hard with thin thin layer of mini ball bearings on top.

Double checked mine. 2.5 dhf is about 2mm wider than the 2.4 dhr2. 27.5" wheels, 28mm internal rims.

Weird that the 26's are different. And annoying. Maybe it's time to ditch those things...

Very strategic, stabby braking. Solid, embedded rocks are your friends for braking.
