Phish with Bobby this past summer, was the shit.
I think you summed that up well.

When a group plays night after night (or as often as this bunch of Geriatrics can play) they get tight and can bring it.

I think a large part of what colored my opinion is that I am just not a Phish fan and never have been. Mayer is a fine guitarist and fits in well.

Perhaps if I had been in Chicago I might feel differently.

watching the Pittsburgh feed now, Easy Wind is totally in JM's wheelhouse.

I look forward to Dean's recaps every day now http://gratefuldean.com/smiles-miles...es-in-atlanta/

I watched the first tunes from last night as well. Easy Wind was the best of the three.

JM never seems to build up his solos. He just keeps noodling at 1000 notes per minute until the band gets bored and then they drop back into the verse or chorus.

As of yesterday afternoon we were probably going to rally, but I was in Logan hell until 2:45am, so that put me in my bed at 4am. Different venue...open grass field without seats in the way...i'd probably go. A bunch of my friends are going. I'm sure it will be fun. Enjoy!

Yeah a big part of Jerry's magic was the spaces in between the notes. I'm more of a John K fan, he might not shred like Mayer but he's got the soul for the sound

    Stu Allen.

Agree with Peruvian, not comparing because there is none but JM's lack of building on a solo/jam is a big miss for me. JK, Stu and Neal Casal seem to all have the knack for structuring a solo/jam and not coming off as wanking or noodling. I will say in the few recent shows I have checked out that I've enjoyed Bob reeling in JM on some lackluster extended solos, really good to see him regaining the ability and desire to take the reigns when needed.

JM just keeps noodling around, too many notes in too small a space. I miss Jimmy Herring and Bobby together. I think Steve Kimock or Barry Sless would be so much better than Mayer.

Second set tonight was pretty damned good though after that high speed Dancin'.

He sounds good to me, and getting better every night. He's starting to play the quiet stuff really well. They killed it in the second set tonight. Will be at SPAC.

Definitely would like to get to see him more live but between Phil and Mars Hotel there are a good amount of shows on the web.

Not sure where on the EC you are but keep an eye out for Melvin and JGB shows. Zach Nugent is a local BTV player who is definitely worth checking out.

Yes he does. Definitely got spoiled getting to see him weekly at Nectars for years with Dead Set...just hard to motivate sometimes on a weeknight when they don't start until 11:00.

Funny as I was just feeling the same listening to tonight's show. Pulled up some old dso to compare and yeah the sound isn't as crisp (partly because of the recording) but the vibe/soul is on. Just isn't quite there for me with Mayer. But it's still good and I would certainly enjoy the show.

Good for you, you get to watch Trey struggle though yet another tepid version of Stash. Or maybe a bunch of the new songs that suck beyond belief. What happened to Trey? Where did his balls go? Oh yeah, they're in your mouth. Keep fluffing Treys limp dick playing, guy.
I'm supposed to go to a couple of Bakers Dozen, can you tell how excited I am? JM plays circles around Terry.

Yeah, your are so much cooler than they are. You need to eat a dose or two. Crush your ego and whatnot. It's douchy guys like you that make Phish shows tiresome. I'll take the smiley, goofy teachers and their love of Sexy Jerry any day. Eat psychedelics, lose the ego.

Heady reply. Such a 3.0 Phish noob response. No one needs your ego killing the vibe at shows, guy. Will you ever be cool? Yeah, I think not.

If it "ain't the dead and shouldn't be" maybe they should play tunes that aren't by the grateful dead? #coverband
