Maybe they used all their budget already. Small storm; just wait it out and get things moving by Monday afternoon.

That's an interesting point. The state has publicly stated their forecasted recovery costs from damages to the highway and how it's like 3x their emergency budget for such expenses. I'd think that it's different pots on $$, but maybe not.

The difference with 80, is that it's an interstate. I'd think priorities would be different.

Idk, but it's definitely making the family retool our day, once again..... Nordic madness!

There was a nice late afternoon blizzard here in Tahoe Valley; touring out by Emerald Bay, turned around about 7500' in whiteout conditions. Classic Tahoe gradient pow, light on top, this storm delivered. Driving treacherous, chaos on 50.

Today was a good day Didn't even need to use my AK.
Carmageddon. WTF. All you flat landers have a BIG Double FUn with that trip home.

My trip was unbelievably long and I only live at the Y.

All day Fun at the Cougar. Cal laps followed by the Gondy.
I'm cool with this, as long as you Kirkwood Bro Brah's stay away from Heavenly when 88 closes- TahoeBc

We'll, did a bunch of laps on Roundhouse. Hit what I could. Had a lot of fun.

Tomorrow will be epic. Sucks that I will be at my desk

Yup, tomorrow will be great. I'm staying in town with kid so my wife can go skiing.

And worth noting that BA's starting to make noises about how the coming weekend might be the start of our next monthly atmospheric river phenomenon. Whee!

Re the ski mounting discussion, the magic of ski resort shop rats expertise pretty much lost me forever when I went out of my way to have Granite Chief at Squaw, supposedly a gold standard kind of shop, mount my Spatulas (with tele bindings) quite a number of years ago. Admittedly a challenging mount, with an annoying plastic layer shielding a seriously tough stainless steel top-sheet, and thin to the base underneath that. Their mount lasted about half a day before it started to pull out; my remount has lasted ever since.

At least you had today. My presence was required in the Bay Area this weekend. Grrr. Although I did brave the mudslides to take a nice fast mid-afternoon drive along Skyline. Got as low as 34 degrees, and there was frozen precip by the side of the road.

MAKE TAHOE DEEP AGAIN ~ 2016/17 OFISHUL SNOW/FOOD/WHINE & STOKE THREAD

The drive from Meiss Meadows to the valley was torture. Got to dig out a second time after running up the invisible side berm. KW may have had 9", but there was more than 3 feet at the SnoPark. Caltrans dug out some lanes for our escape. Thank you CalTrans. Still, the road quickly disappeared after the plow had gone by. The edges did not exist.

Ran a bunch of laps on 5 watching the patient waiters for Cornice. Close to the revised 1:00 projection I joined the growing crowd. It grew to more than 100 strong eventually.
The snow kept getting heavier and heavier as ski patrol would come and go with their bulging backpacks. Loud booms muffled by the snow. We were all told that if Anyone goes beyond the ropes, Patrol will shut down the whole mountain.
The wait was worth it. Even with frozen fingers and toes. But my, with this group the clean is gone in a billowing flash. But so light, seconds and thirds were smile-ilishous.

We are all still here. Cars parked everywhere. I think bunch of people drove to check on a possible pass opening, but am pretty sure no one got out. The store is stripped.

    Tomorrow should be great.
Currently not snowing. First time since last night. Radar says it is going to start again soon. Through Monday night.
Not a chance on the Spur for awhile. Will the Pass open tomorrow sometime? We may still all be here till Tuesday.

Special shoutout for our Ski Patrol. They bust their ass so we can Play. Great group.

Odd. I blew it figuring pass would open eventually. Not one cop or caltrans vehicle all day. Treacherous driving. Glad to just be safe.

Heavenly was cool yesterday. This was from the one brief period where the snow stopped and the sun came out.

Yup. Anyway, today's report backs off of that some ("... That is a big flip on the European model that was showing very heavy precip for early next week.")

    Jeez; 80 still closed.

I think there's been more quality stoke in this thread than the last 5 years combined. Just some ridiculous pictures and videos.

Crazy waffling going with the weather models and temps for next weekend, even by Tahoe standards. Could be all rain Saturday night, or it might snow 5-8 inches at lake level with a lot more up top. It's definitely going to be a "you don't know unless you go" type of situation.

I'll believe it when I see it. If this next set of storms actually does go north, it'll be the first time this winter. They've called for it a couple times (including this last weekend) and each time the stormtrack has pretty much ended up bullseyeing Tahoe.

How do you deal with all that traffic? It was bumper to bumper from the chain guy, below the grade on 50, all the way to ice rink. Glad I was going the other way. They should really have a rule that if you don't have 4wd then you can't go over the mountains.

Hi *Dad*, remember the new Alpine motto " The Carpets will run"...
We will see you later, maybe, if anything does open.
