It's 65 and sunny, and all the trails are dry around Denver (and it hasn't snowed in a while up high)... you expected otherwise?

I was shocked at how little traffic there was on 70 this morning, packed the family up and headed to sams club to buy fifteen pound packages of pork chops and goto the mall today and saw very little people headed up, but then again some poor fucker assholed another car headed west bound in dumont and that didn't help things, wondering how he managed to do that with so little traffic, the resort numbers are very high this weekend though, so someone is skiing, mostly rentals and texans I'm sure

Was in the city today but it sounded like Vail Pass and the tunnel were a complete shitshow when the snow hit (yeah, big surprise). 3 hour shutdown?

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

Officers gulch westbound between Frisco and Copper this morning there were Semi trucks stopped in the middle of the left and then the right lane to put on their chains.

'Oh I guess there WAS a reason that the chain law and flashing chain lights were going for miles before but until I saw the glare ice I didn't believe it...so I'll stop right here in the right lane of a two lane interstate covered in ice and put on my chains'

And slapped upside the head also. A few times. Heading home from Monarch last Monday afternoon a trucker was walking up the road about a mile west of the town of Monarch trying to get a cell signal. His truck in the ditch, road packed snow and ice (was a weird wet storm for 3 days). Apparently the flashing chain law in effect sign at the bottom of the hill wasn't meant for him.

I just miss the days when I70 wouldn't close for hours every time a snowflake hits the road.

Tuesday of the March 2003 storm I drove to LLand from Golden...was basically one lane snow packed and drifted that varied between the left and right side of the pavement. The conditions severely weeded out those who wanted to be there and those who couldn't handle it. The good ole days before CDOT turned totally nanny. And most people knew their limitations.

    Was an awesome day.

The white kind from the sky? Or the whiny type that can't take personal responsibility and handle driving in adverse winter conditions?

    Or both?

people suck at driving, in 2003 cars didn't have tvs not everyone had a cell phone in their hand, driving is the last thing people are doing when they are behind the wheel these days

the biggest reason for closures these days is people are not paying attention and they are running over police officers, fire fighters, and tow truck drivers. Alot of police cars and fire trucks have been assholed by some dumb fuck not paying attention. These people are putting their lives on the line and getting run over trying to help people.

anyone remember the days before they used to mag chloride 70?

I just drove down from basalt, barely snowing and traffic was around 45 mph. Express lane closed? They couldn't plow that angry inch off the Rd?

No, they're limited in the number of days it's open, so they don't waste those on traffic-light Friday afternoons.
