    My dream:

Be walking in the woods on an unfamiliar trail and come upon a backyard full of old Toro riding lawn mowers, a 1962 Massey- Ferguson tractor, bunch of old refrigerators, a rusted out Mercury Bobcat, and THIS:

I enquire to the old codger sitting on the porch of his trailer about the Mercedes. "Oh...that ol' thing? Got towed here years ago for new spark plugs....been here ever since. I keep bumping my new artificial knee on its god darn fenders. You want that heap? Go ahead and take it away!! We're fixing to put a new septic tank in that spot, anyways."

Well, a guy can dream, can't he?

Got home and flipped on the tv and saw the Barrett Jackson auction was live. Got to see Bubba Watson outbid on a 50's Vette, Burt fucking Reynolds sell a Trans Am for $250,000 and then Wayne Carrini (who always seems to come off as a prick to me but has fantastic cars) sell this gorgeous, perfect 1973 911s Targa.

I've never wanted an extra $185,000 laying around more badly.

Funny to see the next lot was the Ferrari Testarossa from Miami Vice that Ferrari commissioned themselves go for only $130,000

Apart from the fact that car is extremely clean or any sentimental value it holds, I do not get the appeal for the old targas. Or the new targas. It's like vinyl top muscle cars but worse.

Maybe because you have shitty taste in cars?

The pic above doesn't show how perfect that 73 Targa S was. It went for more than 2 other 930 Turbos that I saw last night.

I'll always choose a fixed roof given the option; sun roofs included. Some of that is practical (headroom) but honestly I just think car looks better without any break in the roof line. The metal c-pillar on the Porsche above is a particularly atrocious example.

The black roof and pillars with colored body is another trend where there's no love lost. The referenced fourth generation GM F-body was an example. So was the NSX. I'm a fan of both. There's obviously a market for all this stuff.

When douche bag started saying Targas were shit.

I can deal with the used car salesman crap from him.

But when he acts like a complete tool, and says stupid shit, his leash needs to get jerked.

Um ... it's a car .... and an opinion (albeit a shitty one). Deep breaths. In with the good air, out with the bad. Let's avoid this turning into the hell that is PolyAssHat.

    Back to beauty.

THIS is very possibly the most beautiful, most fucking GORGEOUS car ever built.......in my opinion.

    Pure, unadulterated class.

    The 1958 BMW 507 hardtop:

I used to have a 75 911s targa, and while I don't think it looked like shit (even if it was painted a brilliant excrement color) , I agree that the targas were not the best looking cars. I loved driving it around with the top off though. Super fun. Which I had some pics from those days.

Btw....the stainless steel or anodized aluminum band targa seems to look a little better in the later model 991 than it does on the original 911 bodies.

But generally, I can't really see the need for targas, unless one plans on vaulting over the door into the seat.

I simply don't like the aesthetics of most targas...it seems too halfway. The coupes are beautiful and cabriolets wildly fun....but that doesn't mean the targas are both beautiful and fun. That, once again, is simply my own opinion...one which needs no validation nor excoriation.

I really like the black on on the new 991.2 GTS.

991.2 looks better than 991, in every flavor though.

Targa is made as a topless car for winter climates, hence the AWD setup. Perfect for this group of assholes.

I think the Cabriolet 911s ruin the lines of the car, but they are still attractive vehicles.

    targa

    Yeah... I agree. Shitty car....
