Anyone have any lines on cheap accommodations either in south lake or gardnerville, Carson, minden for saturday nights? My kid is playing hockey up there and games are Saturday and Sunday, Nov. through February. Thought about a travel trailer but it doesn't pencil out.

Edit: I am coming from Mammoth
    What size gotamas?

Reno will be cheapest followed by Carson city. I have no specific recommendatiobs

It was a good year in Tahoe and beyond.

Here's to hoping that next winter is equally great.

Last winter was average. It just seemed great after four shitty years. Hoping that the next five winters are at least average.

more specifically--I think it was perhaps average or above above about 7500-8k and definitely below average below--more rain than snow.

I think the same can be said for being north of HWY108 vs south of HWY108 ...

If only Lake Tahoe was at 7k instead of 6200... last season would have been amazing instead of pretty good. Crazy what a difference a few hundred feet in elevation can make. Hopefully we get that possible La Nina with colder storms than El Nino.

Kirkwood in the news...looks like Vail fucked up. Is this why there is a new GM?

    ^^^ Saw that earlier.

Bad. Though at least they have deep pockets. Clean Water Act/Porter-Cologne Act fines can be very expensive, and in addition to the remediation costs.

That explains all the workers next to the creek at Red Cliffs my last trip. I thought they were putting in a road.

Workers are gone today, but the rice straws remain.

Hoping for at least another average year this year.
It's been a few lean ski seasons for me with a career change that's now completed (now working as ER RN). Hoping to get more days this year.

Regarding passes... I've always done Vail, primarily because I lived on the South Shore, but now my Tahoe area lodging is on the north shore and after several mediocre days at Northstar, I'm leaning towards the Sqauw/Alpine pass. Does anyone know if/when the price changes?

Prices shouldn't go up too much until end of Octoberish, if past years are any indication. That's about when I usually have enough saved up to buy a pass, but wait much longer than that and the poor-tax gets substantial.

I think the rule is the pass price actually goes up after about the 7th or 8th time they announce "Last chance!"

And don't forget the perk that they'll throw in to get you to buy a pass, but won't give to the people who already bought one at the same price...

Post Labor day. Almost time for a new thread. PowDork started this one and it was a good season, so.

On the food and miscellaneous recommendations note... Zander's - the new-ish liquor store next to Start Haus in Truckee has a great beer selection. Found some beers I haven't been able to find anywhere else in the bay or Tahoe areas.

I saw the Zander's mention and thought I'd throw a shout out to a new place in Reno I discovered recently. If you want an amazing hamburger (best burger I've had in Reno) with a seriously thought out craft beer selection, then go to Beefys on Virginia in Midtown. It's super small inside so not a great place for the family. Back to waiting for winter.

yes. last year was nothing special, unless you like rain. pulling the trigger too soon will doom us to another so-so season, at best. why do people not understand these things? I say wait until the first opening.
