Also apparently the open boundary policy is now a gate policy starting this year? They wouldn't let me up 10 with my backcountry pack because the gates up there "are closed" and then had to get subjected to a search on 6. Nothing like being forced to unpack your carefully packed touring setup.
that's a new level of douchebaggery

there's a bunch of pics from 2011 closing weekend here, but not too much in the way of shenanigans because i was with my daughters, and we went out of bounds behind chair 10 (it was allowed then but they just made sure we knew we couldn't come back into the resort via the backside).

This year a large group assembled below the chair, at the drop off, to pelt the late arrivals. Next to the chair, Ski Patrol set up a fort and started flinging snowballs down on the assembly. A good snowball fight ensued. All was cool, this year. No passes threatened, this year.

Sounds like I missed the TSA searches...wanted to be there and couldn't make it happen. But yeah, they have been strict on the final day the last few years. Although, best final KW day by far was skiing Carnels in the Cirque on July 2nd with Ottime...legally via Chair 6.

I'm in. Stuff them with cans of soda. They will have to unpack every bag.

Powdork, did they allow you out left of the snow fence, near the patrol hut? Now that I think about it, I was allowed to exit off 10, but after the fence. And had to promise not to ski the cirque or backside.

Corn looked perfect on sunny aspects in Thunder Bowl on Sunday. Would have been a great hike to 99 Steps and then rolling in.

OTOH, everything past Lightning was silky to semi smooth even when I called the day at 2pm. Seriously the best inbounds corn I've seen since having a day on the high T at Alpine years ago.

Might be crap weather for this weekend -- rain in the forecast, so even if not raining, cloud cover will keep the snow from softening up. Or, maybe we'll get lucky and get a late-April pow day...

Thanks Chup: yeah, we had planned a Deso trip to do some corn farming, but hoping for an April surprise on the lift-served instead. If this storm ends up fizzling, we'll figure something else out.

    Angry

after reading about KW closing day, I doubt I will ever give that place/company one more red cent and will tell everyone I know they are running a police state.

this storm trooper shit has got to go, it's everywhere and has infiltrated our entire society, from the actual police and now corporations policing their assets. these are bullshit tactics and the only way to stop it is to speak with your pocket book. you can't even protest anymore w/o storm troopers assimilating against you, illegally using stingray technology to monitor your personal information.

I can't believe this shit has happened to skiing. Thank you Vail. Stupid thing is they think their clientele want this type of enforcement shit, well I am their clientele, I'm the person with the dollars they want taking my family skiing and spending thousands in the tahoe area and I am beyond appalled. Vail resorts can suck my rebel dick and so can every other corporation who hopes to operate a police state in motherfucking America.

We had same situation with the backpack Gestapo here at park city. Its Fucking bullshit, security even physically grabbed me when i told them to beat it.
My friend at Vail Colorado days is not bad there, but i think here in Utah we have the Mormon wannabe cop security and they take it to the limit. Might be a issue with the security contracted out.

If you need a place to stay on Saturday, you're welcome to our guest room. Plenty of space. We're on the Reno side of Mt Rose highway, about 10 mi from Rose.

Much appreciated, Chup! But I'm thinking a more romantic setting for proper "no kid" enjoyment is warranted. Maybe "cheap and funky" wasn't the right descriptor? Another time! If the storm fizzles, I may ping you for Galena MTB advice...

ok dude, I crossed up some verbage. but really those troopers just want to take me in... so they can better persecute me. Grammar is just another way for the man to discredit those of us who speak from the heart... just fucking around, not about the storm troopers though...that shit is seriously a problem.

Anyways, gonna try and post some tahoe stoke from about a month ago...

I'd like to take a basic and cheap climbing class this summer in the Tahoe/Reno area (with a preference for the north side of the lake). The idea is to lay a foundation to step up my ski mountaineering next season. I know ASI has classes, but it'd be great if there were a cheaper option, like a class through a community college. (If not, I've done stuff with ASI in the past, and I know they're good.)

    Any recommendations?

Would love to go to your corner of the Sierra, but it's too damn far.

Looks interesting. I assume this is a good course? I'll look into whether I can qualify for in-state tuition.

Rain flakes at 6500 in Kingsbeach. Changeover to full on snow at 7000. Dumping over Brockway and actually sticking to vegetation
