    Mid-size SUVs recos (again)

Parking garage columns, curbs, fire hydrants, and my neighbor's parked car keep attacking my wife's car. It's also too small, so we are looking for something to haul my seed. I want some interior room but nothing unwieldy. I like the Cruiser, Lexus GXs, Sequoia but may be too big for my wife. She won't allow me to go German again or American so that leaves me with the Japanese and the Burkinabe so I'm leaning Japanese.

Have my eyes on a new Pathfinder, Highlander, Pilot or 4Runner.

Each have an optional third row. It's kinda hard to argue with the 4Runner but I think the Highlander has better pavement drivability. Don't care about mileage. Reliability is paramount, space, functionality and drivability as well.

Am I missing a great option based on my criteria? Any success/horror stories about the ones I mentioned (besides the infamous Piolot)?

Should I just buy a Forrester.

    You lucky dog you.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

No Kias or Hyundais (had both as rentals before and disliked the fit and finish). But maybe I should pay attention to the Mazda CXs.

Forester or Outlander for a spawn minivan SUV. If a stealership garage is close by, the Outlander. Handles better and seats 7 little people.
    God forbid...

4Runner. All the rest are unibody jacked up sedans.

    /thread.

Sure, but a jacked up sedan fits Common's criteria to a T.

The Highlander or Pilot are great options. I believe the Pathfinder has a bit of a spotty record.

My wife loved the Highlander when she test drove it. New Pilot wasn't out at the time but appears to be a solid choice.

The 4runner is great if you need the capability but it has pretty poor on road handling (it is a truck). For someone who is challenged by navigating around stationary objects the 4runner is going to be the hardest to deal with.

If you want reliability, got Toyota, Subaru or Honda. Nissan's ok, but can have their issues, and Mitsubishi is slowly leaving the NA market.

Although, if you can find a Suzuki around, they are pretty bomb proof as well, but no dealer support.

If it's for your wife, get the one with the best visibility around, and maybe she won't hit everything if she can see. For that, Highlander or Forester/Outback/Tribeca.

^^^Pretty much what oldblue said. I love my 4Runner, but you may not need the body on frame construction.

Highlander was nice when I rented one.

Why not a Volvo station wagon?

I vote for 4runner. I love ours and have 0 issues with pavement drive ability. It is pretty much unstoppable in snow and works great as a family vehicle (not to mention it doesn't look like a vag on wheels). The 3rd row in the 4runner is not the best since the car isn't huge. If you absolutely need the 3rd row, you may need to look into a bigger vehicle.

    What's your budget?

The Macan is sweet ride, but it would be hard to find a nicely equipped one for under 60k out the door.

My Neighbor traded in his Expedition for a 2015 4 runner and he hates it. It's cramped, plastic rough riding garbage according to him. He made me sit in front seats, there is no legroom for tall people. Only upside is its held its value so he can dump it.

I drive a Tahoe and a Wrangler so I can't say shit about the ride quality.

    Mid-size SUVs recos (again)

    I like mdx and pilot

    But I have two foresters
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

If you tow or go off-road, 4Runner. Otherwise Pilot, Highlander, or Acura MDX.

I've got an 04 4Runner that's indestructible, but if I was buying new I'd go for the Pilot. The new ones are sweet, they don't look like a toaster anymore.

This is the best so far. 4Runners are great, but total overkill for what you're after.

Venza is also a good bet.

The new Pathfinders are nice but Nissan's aren't at the level of Toyota and Honda and that CVT would make me nervous since they've had some issues.

But you're needs are basically describing the Acura RDX. Smaller than the Highlander, likely better to drive and not much more $$$.
