Unless you're getting a deal on it, or it's granpappie's rifle or something, I'd look pretty hard at a Savage or Tikka. Great accuracy out of the box, excellent triggers and lots of aftermarket support.
.270 is a great round, also consider 7mm-08, 7mm-WSM (.284) if you're wanting a flat shooting, low drag round that weighs between 130-150gr. The beauty of 7mm is that if you start handloading, there are a lot more low drag or heavy for caliber (170-180gr) bullets suitable for long range shooting or large game.
Any reason why you'd go with .270wsm vs 7mm or regular .270? 7mm has way more weights of bullets available for it, and seems like ammo is more available at gun shops. And plain old .270 is available in every country general store/gas station between Washington and Wyoming.
7mag I contend is the ultimate Alaska round. Not great for a guide gun but for a personal hut is ideal.

The reason I am going with this particular rifle (ruger M77 mark II in .270) is that the rifle is in immaculate condition, is at a reasonable price, and is not synthetic. I am a sucker for wood stocks, and in fact, the last shotgun I bought (870) was like pulling teeth to get some wood on that thing.
This gun is not intended for shooting groups on paper so it doesn't need to be bench shooting accurate. It needs to be accurate enough to put a round through vitals at a max of 200 yards.
It was a toss up between .270 and 7mag. The selling point for me was the fact that where I am .270 will handle anything. I don't reload, so there is no benefit there, and ammo is cheaper. I am not able to travel to hunt at this point. If I get to a point that I can travel for hunts, that might be an excuse for another rifle. Win win.
Next question...
Best $200-300 scope for shooting game prolly to a max distance of 200yd , but if I ever found a longer shooting range could reach out?
whatever I feel like i what to do!
Get a Weaver, or Redfield.
I will tell you one thing though, if it is not good at the bench, it is not going to be good at game. Get em both working.
I could load you up a few hundred rounds if you were in my neck of the woods.
I am a Leupold man through, and through, but the prices are just too fucking high.
I am lucky as all my rifles already wear glass, so I don't have to buy.
The new Redfields are made by Leupold, and backed by their no bullshit warranty.
If you cant kill it with a 270, you sure as hell cant kill it with a 7mag. A 270 gives up nothing to a 7mag, and gives up damn little to a 7mm Ultra
I am a 300wby guy, but I have no fear when I am toting a 270
I have one of these coming.
The purist's don't like, but fuck em. I do.

I don't disagree with you at all.
If this rifle goes to the range and is terrible, it is going back to the seller. Luckily I have that option, but I doubt that would ever be the case. I'm not looking for a sub moa gun here with this one ,and I doubt I could shoot that good even if I had the machinery.
whatever I feel like i what to do!
At 200yds, all you need is 1 1/2, 2" at 100..Close enough.
I am pretty OCD, mine better shoot 1/2-3/4, or its down the road.
If you have any reloader friends.
Tell them to cook you up 54-56 grain H4831, and 150grain Sierra. Pro Hunter, or Nosler Partition.

That Don't Make No Sense
The Burris Fullfield E1 3x9x40 with Ballistic Plex E1 reticle. My Dad has on his .270 and the combo works amazingly well. We've been easily hitting 12" steel plates out to 400 yards with it. Unlike most BDC scopes it also has wind holds built into the reticle. Glass is really clear too, nearly the same clarity as my $1000 Vortex.
MSRP is slightly higher than your range but it's available for $250ish on the internet.
Just remember, nobody complains about having too good of a scope.
What's the general consensus on ammo prices right now? Do you guys expect them to go down?
Thinking about picking up 1000 rounds of American Eagle 124 gr 9mm for about $250 shipped to my door. Is $.25 cents per round good, or is it expected to go down anytime soon?
I don't know about 9mm, but most everything else is decently inexpensive right now, down to around pre-sandyhook prices.
Bear in mind on that .270 that wood stocks swell and contract and do weird stuff in inclement conditions. Not a big deal everywhere, but in the PNW or Alaska I wouldn't own one. Changes the point of impact a lot. I've had clients miss whole bears at ~100yards on a rifle that was dialed in when they arrived.

$12.50 a box doesn't seem too bad, but you could probably go a little cheaper with foreign or steel case stuff. What are you buying this ammo for? Plinking? SHTF? Target Shooting?
My range doesn't allow steel (they are paranoid about anything steel hitting their backstop, so if even just the casing is steel, they won't let you shoot it) so going for brass.
Just got my first handgun about a month ago. Have shot ~150 rounds so far. Looking to plink/target shoot and get more proficient. Having some decent ammo on hand would be good as well for any SHTF scenario.
I pulled the trigger on 1k rounds of 124 gr American Eagle for $235+ $18 shipping. Also got some Hornady Critical Duty for CCW. Would have gone with Critical Defense, but they didn't have it in stock.
If your looking a for a good social work round I'd recommend Gold Dots, Ranger-T, or FMJs depending on your environment and threat analysis. Personally, the first 9 out the door will be GDs, after that there are 18 Ranger-Ts lined up.
That is alarming to hear your clients missed a bear from 100ish yards. Sounds like the gun might not have been the only problem there, but I hear what you are saying. Just picked the rifle up today, and put a scope on it (weaver). I plan on taking it to the range this weekend to see how it shoots, and get it sighted in.
We shall see soon.
