Oh, are we having a discussion about feminism?

Interesting. Which stereotypes does it further and how? What is the underlying message, in your opinion, and how does the presentation harm the message? How do you feel about this video?

I get what you are saying but I think you underestimate how much children that age understand. Those girls are old enough to be taught not to wear certain things because of how others (and let's be real here, others=men 98% of the time) might look at them. They are old enough to care about how others see them. They are old enough to understand that in order to be easily likeable, they should not be overly loud mouthed, have too many, too strong opinions, and god forbid they be abrasive or bossy. They are old enough to worry about how they look and what they eat.

Are these pre-teen girls being instrumentalised for a message they don't understand? Why does the pre-teen boy think "like a girl" is an insult?

I'm sure we'd all like them to grow up without ever having to wonder why their lil boy buddies are being payed more for the same work, without being called bitchy when a boy would be called confident and without being called a slut when a boy would be called a player. Amiright?

No. The others also have hips. What she has is a waist to hip ratio that you find attractive because it suggests she might be well suited for bearing your children.

Hey klar, anyone(male or female) being too abrasive, loud mouth, brash, pushy or opinionated is a bad thing IMO. Player isn't a positive word either IMO, it's the same as slut. I talk to my girls about not wearing clothing that is too risque(for lack of a better word) and the listen and don't really care although most times dress pretty conservatively. They're still girls and want to be pretty though, duh they're girls.

As far as gender wage gap it exists, but isn't as 'bad' as certain groups think http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin...exaggerate-it/
I think women should be payed equal pay for equal work but as the above article suggests, it really isn't that simple.

I want the best for my girls, but I do realize they are female and that really does make them different than men.

Or at least take it to some other (appropriate) thread that I can ignore.

So lets randomly select 100 boys and 100 girls all 12 years old. Ask each to throw a baseball as far as they can. It will soon be evident where the term "throw like a girl" comes from. It's not good or bad its just a fact. But of course we can make videos and fill pages of forums on the fact that "throw like a girl" is somehow representative of gender inequality in our male dominated society.

Precisely. Now despite popular belief, most women these days are FAR from innocent, and while guys may brag about their conquests (and exaggerate them), women tend to keep certain statistics to themselves. From what I've seen though, girls are every bit as naughty as guys these days, and objectify men JUST as bad as men objectify them. Plenty of guys here, including myself, have been used and abused plenty of times before finally settling down. Lots of women pride themselves on going out and getting free drinks, free meals, and getting laid whenever they snap their fingers. More power to them I guess, but that just shows that they're far from the weak, meek, innocent little flower that they think society pictures them as.

What many vocal feminists fail to mention is the TYPES of jobs that women and men traditionally fill. My hyper-feminist (ex)sister-in-law would always go railing about how unfair it was that women were paid less on average than men. In the meanwhile, she CHOSE to follow a career of social service, which doesn't pay crap. Whereas her husband decided to go work his ass off in the oilfields, working super long shifts and freezing his balls off in North Dakota. He got paid more. She complained about it constantly and said it was a sexist thing. Women tend to pursue more careers in education, social service, etc than men do, and that's fine. But don't expect an oilfield salary as a social worker. Men tend to pursue more highly paid careers, whether they're blue-collar or engineers. Most women I've known have very little interest in programming computers (TRUE FACT), working on oil rigs, welding, etc. Thus, the average is going to look way worse than the reality. HOWEVER, I have known a couple Amazonian women busting their ass on frac and rig crews, and guess what...they make the same as their male counterparts. In fact, sometimes they're the friggin boss. The work world is not quite as sexist as modern feminists make it out to be. It's all about what a woman wants to do, how hard she works for it, and just like men have to do...how good she negotiates for higher pay. Rocket science!!!

Interesting read. I get the part about it not being 81% and is closer to 86% when you compare man and women within a given occupation, but 86% still SUCKS. I don't get the second half of the article that tries to prove that the gap is really smaller than that.
