Decent, as in the bumps looked like great snow and decent coverage like when I grew up skiing upstate ny. Marginal for jan one here, but better than MTb. Tho, I'd rather be in the ocean right now. Zachs skis very nicely off the morning bell

I skied KW and Heavenly last two days of 2013. Quick report:
Kwood is fun, but limited terrain wise (3 hours and bored), still some off piste to tackle (none @ Heavenly). Rock skis are a good idea. Bumpy. Turn and burn. Terrain park is rails and boxes.
Heavenly has Cali-NV connected. Avoid tram. Piste and funnels of people in places. Terrain park under Tamarack is open, only one on the mountain iirc. Slightly bumpy.
Snow in 2014!

me at sentinel rock
Where is sentinel rock?
Jesus, the GFS shows nothing of significance all the way through to the 17th. I guess I'm gonna start mountain biking and climbing. I'm writing this season off already. It just ain't gonna happen.
I've been skiing here since '93 and I've never seen 3 years this bad. Driest year on record for CA. And the GFS shows those storms your talking about to be weak as shit and mostly missing us to the north with high pressure coming back right behind them. We'll get snow but this will still be the worst winter ever.
sentinel rock is off jacks valley road

Ah ok, I think I may have looked up at it when driving that road to play golf. Looks like a worthy piece of rock from that picture.
Whats with all the people skiing their brand new planks?

Is this something you observed? Or was told? I have not even bothered mounting my new planks. Too much terracing work going on during this dry winter.
Guy tells me te snow will come. In a typical year, the surf tends to come up and pump for a month, then we get real snow. We've had waves for two weeks plus now. So it should not be long from now that we get snow. Now that is scientific and stuff.
Headed back out to get another 5k or so. Not bored, but it helps that my kid is killing it.
I figure he means gun barrel or face tram
Slaloms getting a ton of use. These years are allowing me to teach my young kids, so I'm dealing with it.
Had fun with the fam at KW today. I spent most of the day with my 2 year old but got one lap down Chamoix off of 6. Nice 6 foot air out into a sketchy zone to shun speed but all in good fun. The snow all the way to the Top of 7 was winter chalk although with a few hollow patches due to lack of skier traffic. Other than that, a pretty mellow day...quit early and my older son did the snowmobile course near Tower Bar.
Chamoix - not on slaloms...
Parker age 2 getting the goods off of Chair 1....
Holden age 5 on a multi-sport day...

How was the skiing on Disney, if anyone's been hitting it while doing the Sugar Bowl uphill? I'm thinking of going tomorrow midday and Friday morning. It you want to join or just do some beacon practice/pit digging, PM me.

Only 60 days until the Freeride World Tour comes to KW.
If it doesn't snow by the 17th, we're doomed.
Trigger pulled and flying to Colorado next week for four days. Hopefully that will bring some of the goods to Tahoe.
Every man dies. Not every man lives.
You don’t stop playing because you grow old; you grow old because you stop playing.
Disney wasn't running when I skinned Judah on Monday. At least, it didn't look like the chair was moving at all and I couldn't see any skier traffic. Looked thin as shit and the groomer looker's right of the chair off the saddle between Disney and Crow's Nest looked like it had a bunch of random rocks sticking out. Judah wasn't running either. Jerome and Lincoln were. That said, it certainly looked skiable--just be careful.
I'm going to hit Judah again early tomorrow before heading back down the hill.
Snowshoed Tamarack Ridge with the wife and dog earlier. Here's what we saw...
Somebody built a private mini-park
Snow depth and quality varied from bare sand (even on north-ish facing slopes--probably NE) to ~2 feet of wintery stuff to inch-thick crust over facets over rock. Like this:
Nice view of Big Blue from the top though.
Facebooking or Pinteresting or some shit.
Tamarack (lack of) coverage.
Pretty killer sunset from King's Beach on the way home. The Lake was glass.
Sorry for the grainy cellphone photos. Fail on my part for not bringing a real camera.
Hey Tahoe and Bay Area maggots.
thought this would be the best place for this.
This should be another great event!

3-VALHALLA
Produced by- Sweetgrass Productions. This is their fourth feature film. Valhalla was shot over the course of 2 years in interior British Columbia. Inspired by the Woodstock era, the full length film quickly grew into a 60 page script complete with dialogue, characters, sets, lighting, and a costume department—It is a entertaining change from the typical action sports mold. Based in Nelson, BC, It is the tale of one man's search to rediscover the freedom of his youth. This film goes beyond action sports— Valhalla’s has a totally unique style, and structure, and is a new spin on the modern ski film.

4 -SPICE GIRL-
Produced by Big Up productions- In UK the climbing scene is well known for its strict traditional ethics, creating dangerous routes and a competitive machismo among the driven young climbers risking it all to prove their boldness.
British climber Hazel Findlay is the first woman to climb the British grade of E9 (super hard, super sketchy), Hazel is a connoisseur and master of loose rock, dodgy gear, and big runouts.

5-QUIK-
Directed by Colin Kennedy This is a film shot exclusively on the sidewalks and streets of Los Angeles and gives unprecedented look into the world of street skating. All of the skating was captured entirely from a moving vehicle. The film follows Austyn Gillette as he skates through the neighborhoods of LA's historic east-side and downtown at top speed.

INTERMISSION- 15:00
6 - DOUG STOUP
this is a film we created for the TAFF. This is not a film you will see on line or at any other film festival. It was shot by Tahoe local Tom Day (mostly for WME), and edited by another Tahoe local Dane Henry of Deep Roots Media- we wanted to feature one of the exceptional Tahoe personalities in our Tribe- Doug Stoup. I have now worked on 3 polar ski mountaineering expeditions with Doug in the past 2 years. He is one of the most amazing people I have ever met, and this year’s Golden Camalot recipient.
7 -SPLIT OF A SECOND
Directed by: John Boisen & Björn Favremark
This film "SPLIT OF A SECOND" profiles Wingsuit World Champion Espen Fadnes and is a follow up film to "SENSE OF FLYING", this time they capture an up close, personal look at Espen's thoughts and motives behind flying and some never-before-seen footage of human flight.

8-ROAD BIKE PARTY

10- NEVER NOT 2
Produced by Nike Snowboard. This is a segment from the full length film. Never Not 2 exposes the audience to snowboarding’s unique culture and characters. Getting up close and personal with the riders, they capture what it takes and what it means to realize your potential and live the snowboard dream. This is the Nicalos Muller segment, great riding, amazing cinematography, and a old school world class sound track.

Will be in Colorado next week for the first time in like 15+ years. Hoping for some good conditions there (and that it dumps in Tahoe while I am gone).
I spent the past two days at vail and the beav, both delivered the goods.
Apparently people don't ski vail on holidays, yesterday was a ghost town with knee deep snow until the back bowls closed.
(I thought I posted up on Tuesday night, but it got disappeared, apparently. Nothing important)
Really? Out of the various resorts we've skied this past couple of weeks, we thought SV had the worst "snow" quality (went yesterday).
All I can say is Thank Goddess for Snow King!
Decent groomers off Squaw Creek, but crowded!
Some spice in the bumps under Red Dog lift (Dogleg?). Soft, heavy "pow" on top. But the groomer next door was giving folks trouble (icy).
Also a bit of spice near to Far East lift offload, where there is an S bend in the groomer.
Easy to do.
Enjoyed ourselves on Sunday (Olympic, LookOutJaneck bumps & chutes, "ski-touring" as ShadyLady called it) and we'll be there again on Saturday!
Heading to Heavenly this Sunday.
Heard they'd been blowing a ton on the NV trails, so we're looking forward to that. No really
Holla!
Life is Short! Don't Postpone Joy!
Trying to get a feel for them I suppose...or trying to get laid, so need the Sexiest Newiest Topsheet Out There?
...Remember, those who think Global Warming is Fake, also think that Adam & Eve were Real...
Does anyone know if Echo Lake is safe to travel across right now?
All skis are rock skis.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
