    OMG White Heat opens Saturday!!!

The GFS has the weekend storm looking pretty good, the NAM a little out to sea, but still delivering. I wish I knew more about this stuff. The systems next weekend have me completely perplexed. Something just looks off about them, not sure what it is, but they don't look like "real" systems.

    I actually went skiing today!

Where: Gunpowder Falls State Park, MD
Why: to break my new boots in
How: Not sure, there wasn't much snow (1" ice/granular under 4"-5" powder)
    Partners: a few Juncos

Earned some turns today. I was hoping that the Hereford Zone would have more snow...Oregon Ridge down south actually had more. Shiiiiit.
The north slopes of the river valley have some vertical, but not too much snow right now. Still worth it though.

Nice Picture you found there Rob

Liked hearing Tim Kelly's view for the rest of the month

    http://www.skitheeast.net/ste-snowca...ecember-lovin/

Edit: Yeah I sucked at copying Rob's earlier image. Anyways it shows graphically the amount of moisture predicted for the next couple of weeks-and it looked like the Northeast was going to get a bunch.

Second edit-just saw MWOBS reported 7.2 inches of new snow on the am report. Gotta like that.

cat, that gif is sooooooo small, need a glass.

Nice to see skiing in MD, Summit in March?

Working to mount some new skis and a bit perplexed. Old stock from the back of the quiver and instead of midsole mark it says "boot toe" with an arrow. Front of toe? Where the front of my toe[in the boot] would be? Using Scarpa AT boots, is the toe shorter? Difference is a few cm but I am balanced like a cat so it wouldn't bother me, but would like it to be close.
Plenty of Heady around and I have my compass so I am not stumbling around yet. Thanks

I think these will be fun at K Sat.

Your tellin me! You better get busy with that auger and swiss cheese some weight
of those puppy's so their usable. I would go with the front of the boot; safer bet
that everyone has the same starting place. Not many have pussy paws.

What's your bsl?... maybe we could swap out.

That's like the Explosiv's. EarlyWood and I had to do some research on that from my garage when we were mounting some a few years back. Based on our combined wisdom & research (lol) we decided that the proper use of the toe line is to line up your boot on the topsheet with the toe flush with that line, then mark the center line on your boot on the ski & mount normally.

I haven't had a Topper in months, so I'll take one

Thanks for the tips guys. Checked it out with the Sploders and tip of toe looks greeat. Only problem is I may now ski the Volkls', as we are getting moar snow.
Got a can-o-Heady for you JGB.
DJ, I saw your old 4 sale thead on T4T when I googled GT6 mounting. This is the third pair of these I have aquired. The GT6 was my favorite tele ski back in the day, after going through a pair of El Caminos' then a pair of 4s I got a pair of these.
K2 then shipped production to China [thanks to Dan Quayle] and I bought two pair of the last year of US stock, Still have #2 kicking around. Thinking I skied around 450-500 days on this family of ski.

    KILLINGTON, Vt. -
Vermont State Police are investigating what killed a skier at Killington.

Ski patrol found the body of 21-year-old Jennifer Strohl off the Great Northern trail around 5 p.m. Thursday night.

Friends of the Pennsylvania woman reported her missing some 6 hours earlier, after they became separated skiing at the resort.

Police say she suffered a head injury after what they call an apparent collision. Strohl was not wearing a helmet.

Her death does not appear suspicious

Maybe rog getting that fat bike is the anti jinx we need to get this winter rolling!

Climbing skins ready for Sundays Win-hold. Not keen on the SE wind.

Neufox - You're starting to get dangerous with those maps, going to need to start your own blog soon!

A sure sign there's a storm brewing, all the squirrels and birds in the neighborhood are on the move this morning stocking up.

Prayers to the skiers family and friends and also to all the Sandy Hook victims, a very sad day in history.

. fuggin awzum ride. the bike inspires increased confidence, like when two separate rock/root garden launches in between trees become one longer launch. tires @ 10 psi launched me into orbit as I was pre jumping the 1st to hit the second. lets just say that I got a bit in the backseat with bars partially crossed but pulled her back around and landed in a nice left to right carve. whoo!

windhold sounds like bliss. nothing worse than a pow day with lifts running.

off to poach some trees for firewood harvesting off of route 1, then grocery shopping before work at noon. a full morning!

That is the 850_temp_mslp_precip which shows:
temps at 5000' (blue and red lines go in 10C layers) so everything N of the 0C line should be frozen, except when its not and except when there is frozen precip S of that line....
precip in the colors, look at the key, green is good, blue is great, red is OMFG, except when its too warm
The black lines are pressure gradients.

I've found this model run to be the most informative / easy to use.

This is my blog. Don't go confusing me for Lionel or people who actually know what they are talking about. I just look at the pretty pictures.

Right now, the picture for next weekend looks like . Warm and wet. There have been outliers where the freezing line stayed further S but it my unprofessional opinion, it is not looking good. So make turns this week if you can!

Just for fun, go out with 25PSI. It's a little like riding a conventional warhead: you smash over everything...but you get moving so fast in a straight line that the bike doesn't want to do anything but go straight until impact. It's fun...and scary.
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

    Hello boys,
I just want to apologize for my son. I know he's a whinny little cunt, but he's my whinny little cunt and I love him. I'm just glad he's spending some time on TGR instead of spending 23 hrs a day on his other favorite website hothomoeastcoastdudes.com. I know he likes to pretend he knows everything about everything, when in reality he doesn't know shit. He gets that from his father. He just says things to sound cool when in reality we all know he's just a bitch. I really want to apologize to the good people out in Utah. He is so jealous of you guys it's pathetic. He wants to be out there so bad he cries himself to sleep every night over it. That's why he cunts up every Utah thread with his mindless drivel. He wants to be riding the big mountains and deep snow you guys have but instead he stuck on the east coast skiing icy bull shit and low angle pussy groomers. Well you boys have fun, I got to go find Rog and send him to the store to get me some tampons and cigarettes.

Neufy - Ha, the pretty pics are what got me interested too, aside from the obvious addiction issue that is. I've gotten friendly with one of the local mets and have enjoyed a few crash courses over beers in the last year, definitely still a novice but I can at least make heads or tails of some of those maps.

Saw this one earlier this morning, looks a little more positive than it did in yesterday's run. If this holds true Magic and points S/E could be in the sweet spot for whatever falls. Figures there is a good possibility of a warm up next week, just in time for what will hopefully be my first day on snow.

    hey mom!^^^^^^^^^^^

    ya, pretty bad trolling there.

    russ sez:

Yet another Arctic front will settle southward as we look ahead to this afternoon. This feature will bring some passing cloudiness and isolated flurries to the region later today and will reinforce the cold air that's currently in place. Look for that front to stall to our south tonight while low pressure takes shape over the Southern Plains. That system will track northeastward, move up the coast and be positioned just off the coast of Southern New England by Sunday morning. This is an ideal track for producing fairly heavy snowfall for the region and the cold temps will ensure we squeeze the most out of the available moisture. The low will track south of Nova Scotia Sunday night while we see another upper level trough move in. Colder air will follow and a weak clipper is expected to bring a little more light snow Tuesday. Pattern changes for a few days late next week with a major upper trough forming out west - the resulting southwest flow will bring thaw to our region the weekend before Christmas.

mmmm, a nice free load of discarded ash this am.

I think most people who know rog in "real life" would agree he's a genuinely good guy, as are most of the people on this thread I've met.

Maybe we shouldn't take people's online personas so seriously and just take it for what it is.

back to the impending snow we should be talking about...
