Most years December is a crap shoot with an obligitary January thaw then maybe the spigot opens feb-mar.
2000 -01 was sick. My first daughter was born but still got 20 something days. The wife was happy to sleep in or stay home. My first year at Jay since college. Sickness.

2007-08 I remember that Dec well. Had so much snow and commercial plowing that year that I was in a plow truck or loader from Dec 3rd thru Xmas morning. Not much skiing that winter but lots of white gold!

Not off to same start but still early. It will come.

About the knee ... in all seriousness injuries suck. Go see an ortho knee surgeon (not just any ortho but one that specializes in knees and preferably one that is an athlete or better a skier). Do you homework and find the best in your area. Key to injuries is staying in shape in the first place. Strong legs less opportunitiy for injury. Get healthy get strong. Not bulky strong but strong. The only thing I have figured out. Good luck.

Please save me first tracks on Red and/or Black. Thanks in advance!

Best December (only) I think was 2008 just for the most incredible refresh clipper action I've ever seen.

edit to add, I thought 2008 was pretty close to 2000. Looks like for one stretch they were identical. Those dumps in 2001 late season were unreal though.

Ya mon, no worries! Magic is perfect place! A friend kind of collects old ones. He admits to having an issue

my one and only season at stowe...a big FU, but it was damn good!

Did someone say magic carpets? Best lift ever. If you're 1 and a half years old.

People shooting ski areas should be sued.

    fuck you neufox47!

    NOVEMBER WAS A GODDAMN GIFT

praise be to moist northwest winds.

appreciate what we got rather than wringing your hands over what the models say we may or may not get next week

This time of year the best to hope for is snow making weather. Anything else is gravy. We still have snow covering the yard, so I'm gonna Hakuna the fukin' Matata out of any forecast.

Bottom line is that EVERY season is special in its own way here. Moments of zero to moments of hero. Keeps the fire burning. Keeps us from feeling spoiled. Keeps us Appreciative.

As far as injuries and pain go, just keep yer whole body strong and yer weight down all the time if ya can. Haven't felt much of a twinge in the joints since my 20's probably due to keeping the daily 1-2+ hour workouts going of different sports. Never too much of one thing cept for surfing. If theres waves every day, i forget to eat enough, drink enough, little sleep. A month straight that and im all fucked up.

Fuck i have a lot of binding mounts today.

OBS forecast for George has improved:

"A frontal boundary will slowly traverse the region today as an area of low pressure approaches from the Mid-Atlantic for Friday. Light precipitation associated with the front this morning will fall as a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain before transitioning purely rain this afternoon and evening. Overnight, the front will slide east with cold air returning behind it. This will allow lingering precipitation to transition back to snow by Friday morning. Temperatures will then continue to fall through the day Friday allowing for continued snow as precipitation associated from the southern low approaches. New snowfall today will be a trace to 2 inches with a trace to an inch of glaze ice possibly forming prior to the rain. Overnight into Friday, an additional trace to 2 inches of snow may fall, however, totals on Friday may go higher is the low tracks a bit more inland than current model runs are suggesting."

I was done with resorts after my initial injury in 04. Thought the acl was gone, actually 1/2 tear. I've been aware of the time bomb in the right leg ever since. As far as resorts, can't hardly handle on lap on man made snow without feeling it immediately, but can do 6000 vert day in bc with regularity. Knee injury drove me away from the resorts. Come to find out, that was the best thing I could have done for my ski experiences. Best news from my scope...0 arthritis! Pedal. Pedal. Pedal. Ski.

Yikes, I think I'll be taking it easy for awhile…

That study is helpful, I'll have a lot to talk about with the doc when I go in (Jan. 6th), he's a shoulder and knee specialist. The two things I'm going to see him about, go figure.

edit: Found this little bit regarding the meniscus, this is it, to the T.

"In a typical moderate tear, you feel pain at the side or in the center of the knee, depending on where the tear is. Often, you are still able to walk. Swelling usually increases gradually over 2 to 3 days and may make the knee feel stiff and limit bending. There is often sharp pain when twisting or squatting. Symptoms may diminish in 1 to 2 weeks but recur with activities that involve twisting or from overuse. The pain may come and go over a period of years if left untreated."

Great first day of spring skiing. A bit foggy on the upper 2/3rds but flat and soft = braille skiing bliss. only hassle was the 30 or so skittle kids flailing around, other than that around 25 others out.
Bonus for running into Henri, at 86 he's still spinning the squirrel wheel and not complaining about knee pain.
