if yer a mtb'r there ain't nuthin much better than riding trails that you design and build.

    hava nice day' y'all!

Why don't you leave the tools hidden in the woods? I always did that. I agree about how good the feeling of riding trails you built feels. I started building the year after I got my first mtb and continued for 10 years. Nice to tweek corners and features along the way to get it to ride how you want it to. For every hour spent building there was the 2-3 spent route finding and linking features that I wanted to include. Having grown up in the country on a dairy farm I also just loved being in the forest having spent thousands of hours hiking and hunting as a youth.
But alas I tired of an insultive writer, baby riders destroying tech features and an apathetic and rude lbs and walked away in 03. Unfortunately the loss of the building took away the joy of riding and I pretty much stopped in a year. Returning to Sport Bike riding definately filled the void and I didn't really miss it, power and speed can sure fill a hole. I now ride quite a bit as I wanted to stay in shape for skiing and have never really enjoyed hiking.

Sunrise was speccctaccular today and warm enough to sit outside and enjoy it.

Was out for a little stroll today and bagged my buck

    NICE BUCK!

I don't carry many tools and don't wanna leave any evidence cept for the new trails i'm building. not many folk travel through the area i'm building in tho. could hide the tools I guess. headed back out at 6am on the bike with a coupla tools to finish up a coupla areas I worked on the past 2 days. I may build a much more substantial piece on sunday

back to brown ground in the mountains i'm guessing by Tuesday. winter will come

Yea, it's easy enough to hide stuff in the forest, most folks are so unobservant they could be standing on a rake and not see it. I would sometimes get so involved I would misplace tools while working till I started tying lenghths of orange surveyors tape to them. One time while cutting a line at MRG it started snowing while I was sawing to the tune of 2+ inches. Loppers disappeared, went back 4 days later and retrieved them, friend of mine named the line "lost loppers".
Skiing yesterday from the top was still good, hard skiers right in the shaded zone was sugary sand and a very enjoyable if narrow line. A two turn warning sound of zipper crust coming meant ,pay attention. NE facing was powdery delight delux. Probably would have been better earlier in the day before the suncooked snow set up although the 3-4" down to 1800' that had refrozen skied really well. Today should be nice.

Currently sunny, calm and 40.1` bob

^^^^^for the next longer section of new trail i'll at least leave the rake out there so I can ride back and forth to the trail as it's only about 8 minutes to get there from the house. left this am at 6 in the dark with my commuter light carrying my long handle loppers and a 16" bow saw sticking out the top of my MULE pack. finished up some final tree cutting and stone wall work on the new trail section then had time to finish cleaning up and old existing trail. even did a tiny re-route of one line. made it home sweaty at 730am. my gf said she looked out the window as I flew into the driveway with tools hanging above my head and had a chuckle

    so great!

    ski what's left up there

Skied sherb top on Thursday. Skiing in only the most rudimentary sense, but it was possible, although not intelligent, to slide all the way to the car. Probably not much left after the warmth the last few days. Considering checking out the bowl today...

Are there any mags in the West Lebanon area that can help a friend who broke down on 89, and is out of cell coverage? He was heading to highland to ride for the day.

This snow has really raised my spirits.

Neufox, you had me scratching my head there but what a shot!

And congrats on the kid, VTCS. With how prolific you've been posting pow surf shots I thought for sure we were also going to get some feed from the delivery room, but you kept it tasteful.

Leaving the house to climb soon. There's surprisingly still some color left hanging on in the city and the sky is looking bluebird, so Central Park should be a treat. I gotta say, climbing shoes are way easier for me to store than another bike.

Anyone going to warren miller? I might head over.

Here's some nsfw climbing stoke. Hopefully I'll post some ski shots by the time the stake is up to 66 and some inches or something but you guys keep up the good work!

Congrats VTCS. Kids help sustain you and give your life purpose. When you get to - ahem - middle age, you can live vicariously through them.

The barrage of questions about my schuss life in Greg's latest post over at FIS left me feeling pretty insecure. Do I make enough schuss? Do I make schuss as well as others? Do I spend too much time thinking about the schuss I can't make and not enough time making the schuss I can? I decided the only way to overcome my angst was to make schuss immediately.

Hope everyone else had a good Saturday!
