Kirkwood is shut down today, Heavenly is serving up a few mid mountain lifts on both CA and NV. Even most of Sierra is on hold. Avy danger is High just about everywhere. But I'm still gonna get out since yesterday was so damn fun (fluffy and fast) right til the bell rang at the ol ski ranch.

looks like a 7-11 kinda day.

i'd be happy to show ya quad, but trying to communicate directions w/o visuals is next to impossible in that area. it is much easier now since the burn though so i bet a savvy soul such as yourself would be fine. and it gets hammerred these days so i bet you would have trax to guide you. basically just dont keep going when the tracks veer left

Alpine is on hold right now. Heading to Squaw since we heard Red Dog and maybe Squaw Creek are running. Just getting hammered right now.

Hey Thanks, maybe after the dump and some low base building I would like to hook up. That whole side of the mountain looks narly with all the snags, blowdown and granite so I guess you could get tangled up if you go the wrong way or just being stupid. I have skied that whole perimeter but always contoured back to upper Boulder never the other side. Anyway, here in Washoe Valley, my house it is dumping big time, huge flakes and base building in my yard.

I can confirm that it is nuking here at the base of Kingsbury (5000') on the Gardnerville side. ~1.5" in the last hour, but it's above freezing and very sloppy.

Low tide is generally super sketchy unless there's at least 6-10 feet of consolidated coverage to bury all the boulders, stumps, fallen logs and other nasty surprises.

They're always pulling bodies out of those caves.

Was gone for 5 hours to ski and my driveway was knee deep in that time. Total junk show on the roads if your not up here already I'd think twice about heading up.

P.S. the skiing was dreamy, I'm wondering if the world did end and I'm in heaven.

Gimpy on the skin track, Scralp behind me and Powdork somewhere on 89 getting the boots he forgot to bring

Hwy 50 Junk show, traffic not moving at all leaving town, and Gimpy about to get out of the car to tell the dumbshit in the red truck he can drive around the dumbshit who tried to make a u-turn on 50 and got stuck.

Got to Alpine sorta late this morning with just enough time to have a leisurely breakfast from Treats and walk out to the lifts as Roundhouse was opening (roughly noon-ish). Skied for a few hours with what started as no crowd and grew as the day went on. Ropes up towards lower deer camp and wolverine face, so everyone stayed under roundhouse and yellow. Some steeper spots got skiied off and were icy, but most of it was really fun snow. Wind loaded some stuff differently than I've seen before adding to the mix.

Heh. That skin track looks way too shallow to have been any time other than fairly early this morning.

i'd bet after these storms it should be good to go. prolly great right now on the upper 1k but danger below that. it was much better when it was illegal i think. firebreak used to be good days after a storm pre-gates. now its tracked by noon but you can find less traveled lines close by. if they would shut the "supposedly illegal non-gate" access below the gondy and make people go thru the raleys and firebreak gates, there would be waayyyyy less traffic. snowboarders in particular would be stuck riding firebreak off olympic as 99.5% can't handle the maggies traverse. dare to dream

pretty evident why sac had a high rating today. there is a heavier layer above the lighter stuff that fell yesterday and all that is on the 6-8" from our systems last week that became faceted w/ the super cold (for tahoe) temps. that seems to be where the weakness lies now w/ all the new snow falling on top of the faceted layer. not quite the ideal set-up we have right now

18 inches in my driveway tonight after spending the day at Alpine Meadows. You'll probably have a better time at Squaw tomorrow

It's easy to think that you can't have much fun at Alpine with Roundhouse the top of the hill and everywhere right of Rock Garden or left of Blue closed.

    Easy. But so wrong.

    Tired, sore, and happy.

Not from the area but had a couple of great days last week in the Tahoe mountains. Some resort, some non-resort. Not a bad season kick off. Chronologically taken off the GoPro starting with Tues-Thurs. Monday was killer too but I didn't feel like being a snow quail that day.

that can be misleading. you can ski the upper burn area from olympic and cut Right and get back into the resort at north bowl or if you access via the firebreak fall line you can end up at the lower burn area where you cut left to get to the runout to the gondola.

Doable, maybe. Check road conditions, including how many jackasses have spun out an blocked the road, frequently. <http://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/> is a relatively new and good resource. Be prepared -- with supplies and mentally -- to take a break if the going gets rough.
