I'll be there." ... Andy Campbell
Nice shots PD. And I thought you said something about something on the skin track. Still skiing tho?
Enjoy this run folks. I'm out until the new year, so it should pretty much dump right up until then. Just bummed that so much will get buried in that time.
yeah, we're trying. i think. or one of us is anyway.![]()

Nice shots, TahoeBC (I'm a big fan of the bc/mtb chill out spot), PD, and sierraskier. Having gone straight to work today, I feel a great emptiness this morning.
Why? Is he gonna beat me up? I didn't know ragging about management not having shit open wasn't acceptable anymore. Too many middle aged, politically correct, sensitive ninnies in here! Oh,that's right it's all about stoke and positive vibes bro! For fucks sake it's a conditions thread. Lighten the fuck up. You really can't handle an objective opinion about how things could be better in the midst of your powder day circle jerks? Family life and 9-5 get you guys all wound up.
Not executing very simple solutions to make the mountain more shreddable and enjoyable by not allowing traversing below hazardous terrain hours before they open it to hiking is by definition retarded (and lazy). I don't take anything away from the work of your average patroller. I'm well aware that your average patroller has no say in what goes down on the mtn. I'm ONLY referring to whomever makes the decisions to allow people to traverse from lower Beaver all the way out to Buttress when it's just as safe and easy to allow them to hike the ridge. They're stuck in their ways. The truly do need someone that can think outside the box running things that will take a little extra initiative to open the mountain with top to bottom fall lines in mind. That's my opinion. Fuck off if you don't like it. I guess traversing the mountain out 200' at a time is tradition there. As a snowboarder, I enjoy shredding fresh lines top to bottom instead of sideways. Give me the guy's work email. I'll gladly share my opinion with him.
And I truly give thanks to all the average joe patrollers doing a dangerous, thankless job. That doesn't mean management not opening terrain due to laziness and complacency is acceptable. They can continue to choke on a big bag of dicks![]()
BGnight post your sentiments on their facebook. they may delete it, or not. but they will have to read it first. it does seem to have opened some eyes that we expect more at kirkwood.

Not a bad idea. Maybe if I refrain from telling them to ingest male genitalia they'll take my ideas into consideration.
I may be soft but I'm still an asshole damn it!
BG - How could patrol even stop the lower traverses going across Beaver from Wolverine. What are they going to do? Fence off the entire side of Wolverine so you have to go up top on foot? Going across the tracks does suck sometimes, but I don't see a realistic solution.
- Nice pics sierraskier.
on a slightly different subject: where are the free kiddo snowplay/sledding areas in the truckee/tahoe-donner area? I have some family w/ young kids (never been in snow) staying a few night in tahoe-donner next week and they wanna play.
TIA
ps. rode sugarbowl w/ my 7yo this morning. the windbuff was nice.
This weekend is going to be so shreddy!! Praise Ullr!!
Oh fuck the world ends tomorrow
Could go either way I guess
Blergh, nonrefundable hotel in Napa this weekend and our friends bailed due to a family emergency.
Longshot - Anyone have a guest room or something next weekend (28th) in South Lake?
with all the "lighthearted banter" about the AM ski patrol- it's probably worth noting that one of the old ones has left us.
Pete of "Pete's Peril" fame passed away 2 nights ago after a lengthy illness.
His story of his slide/ride always got better after a few beers. Somewhere up there, there's a poker game going right now with Bernie, Pete and Norm Wilson betting shots on how much snow falls between now and Monday.
If you have concerns with how the avy program is run at any area- during a dry spell, stop in and talk to the area forecaster. If he has time he'll talk and describe the history of the peak in question, and the liabilities of the terrain bordering it. The entire Ward Peak area has some unique wind loading situations that need to be dealt with in a series before the public gets access for skiing. The decisions aren't arbitrary.
And please don't rag on a patroller you happen to be on a chair with.
The standard answer is usually-- "Well if YOU were in charge of avy control, I wouldn't ski here."
"if you plant ice, you're gonna harvest wind..."
Nobody end up like this this weekend, ok?

Skiing has been awesome. Just going to get better. Everyone have fun and be safe. Also, if you're in the area and need some work, check out my post in the "work or lack there of" http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...03#post3851703
BGnight - now you are getting the drift - no Evan would not kick your ass, but he might chew it out in front of the whole bar, including other AM patrollers - contacting them on Facebook might be a good idea, but since I don't use it, I wouldn't know - not insulting folks goes a long way here, too - seconds to wolfy's suggestion to chat with the area forecaster - he knows his shit and is an awesome guy
I'm Joe Patroller, but I don't have to deal with anything like the folks at AM, SV, etc - those guys have a tough job - be nice
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
lotsa fun windbuff turns to be had on KT today. Wind was filling in so fast that my line was covered up by the next lap most of the afternoon
