Here's an article about the Alpine accident. Looks like Gone2Alpine has some information on his site about it as well. She was an AM ski school employee.

So sad to hear. RIP and vibes to her family and friends.

Ugh, while I didn't know her well, I met her a few times on the mountain while helping with disabled sports. Super nice gal, always stoked to be out with the kiddos, and an infectious smile. RIP Annalise.

First I would like to say sorry. I know bitching about the wood is getting old. So are the lies.
    From The Woods FB page

    Kirkwood Mountain Resort Hola Court,
You know the answer We are not opening Chair 6. We are opening Chair 5, until we have more coverage. We have not had the temps to utilize our snowmaking connecting Upper Zachary to Lower Zachary… Solitude Chair 5 is what we are opening and has what we want for base coverage. Totally agree top of 6 is great but does not connect with what we want as base & coverage. We’re hopefully going to see the temps return for snow making operations Friday night & if Mother Nature delivers the 4”-6” of new, Then we will be ready & able to open more terrain.
    Stay Thirsty my friend,
    Coop

Um I think he should have just said "Sorry Court it is all about the $." This also can be translated to Season Pass holders are Stupid Bitches and we really only care about ticket buyers and those staying on site. Until those numbers go up the other lifts will remain closed.

I have seen less coverage and the mountain is 100% open(2011-2012 season). Quit the PR BS Coop. Come clean and tell everybody it all about the $. Respect Gets Respect.

I will be quoting this again should we actually get the 4-6 inches. Of course the lifts will be open just on Wind Hold

Word on the street was Heavenly was paying people to guard the sides of the run. I think it will be funny if Vail employs the same strategy at the Wood. I hope this is not done, rather than bump chairs they will be trying to take some of those passes back.

    EPIC
I'm cool with this, as long as you Kirkwood Bro Brah's stay away from Heavenly when 88 closes- TahoeBc

This just posted by Alpine to their Face page:

Hi folks! We just want to be sure that you are aware that Alpine has closed uphill access to the mountain in preparation for the upcoming season and opening day. With snowmaking and grooming operations in effect, we have snowmobile traffic as well as groomers out on the mountain along with all of our snowmaking equipment (hoses, cords, etc.). Winter operations has begun, and with all of this going on, we need to keep public off the mountain. We know you are all eager to get out and get some turns in and we look forward to seeing you on opening day (Dec. 7…if not sooner!).

^^ I just came here to post that. They'd better be opening sooner than December 7th at this point, especially if they're closing it off 23 days before then.

nakedshorts you sound like a dooshy little crybaby bitch, what are you 15 or something? get over it and go into the backcountry if you feel you need to ski something other than what they are offering, or are you too pussy to go somewhere that patrol won't come fish you out of when you fuck yourself up? also heavenly has good reason to stop people going off the run into the rocks and logs, you would have to be a total idiot to do it, and looking at some of the tracks out there today there are plenty idiots around.

Like I said before I am still waiting for the yellow jackets and closed ropes.
I will hike to ski sometimes, but I will be in front of you (in line) on a powder day every time.
I know I have a little sand in my vag and that is OK.
I think it is fun to bitch and moan, especially when I have no control of Kirkwoods latest stream of BS.
I skied from the top of 6 last Sunday. It was delightful.
Remember it is all about the $, and if you knew me you would know I am a douche, I live to snake lines.

Now a little stoke for the fire.

Why does Squaw/alpine open Squaw first? Seems like Alpine has the better WROD early season.

Because Squaw has restaurants, shopping, and lodging all on the premises and the patrons won't have to leave the resort to get those services.

Honestly, I don't know what the hole looks like between lower and upper Zachs, but until they can groom that (and easily get a sled down the hill), they don't usually open 6. It is possible that is the issue.

I do have a feeling that Vail is looking for a bit more coverage than the old KW would to get open. Perhaps it is policy due to greater liability. I mean, who would bother suing the old KW? Vail on the other hand has plenty of money, and they are already spending it (not on things I want, but they have been doing work in the valley). And there are plenty of assholes who like to sue ski resorts, so...

I too wish 6 were open (but don't really care, cause I won't be up there for a week), but if things don't pop, I will hike for it.

Now, if they don't get TC open for the holiday, the slurs will be flung.

As for trying to tree ski at the Heave right now. That place needs a base first. And closed trees is not a Vail thing. Heave has been doing that for years to keep the idiots safe.

Here is hoping for a real base maker.

I think he has a point. They had the temps to make snow all weekend, in fact they were blowing snow under 5 the entire time I was there on Saturday. So they have had the temps, maybe not the guns to fill in six top to bottom. The snow was consolidated more on Monday, but they still had pretty good coverage.

I guess it will be a little less crowded for myself and everyone else who doesn't use facefuck after this next storm

I heard from a longtime employee at KW that the job fair from a few weeks ago only provided 65% of the employees needed to run at full steam. That may be normal, but seems quite a bit shorter than back at my days from KW.

Yes, I'll take the Roundhouse WROD over Red Dog for sure. It'll be interesting to see what Squaw's "improved snow making" results in this year. But, Squaw is a destination resort, and people aren't going to stay if the runs aren't open, even if it is a short bus ride to better open terrain at Alpine. Not to mention ensuring revenue generation in the Squaw village.

Old men have short memories. They opened 4 well before Christmas before.

    That one time.

Okay. So now that I am back at home, chilling with my son (at 5am!), I have gained a little perspective. This season is off to an awesome start and is already better than all of January last year. So chill the fuck out. If you want to be all negative, go back to 11/12. This year is sick.

I know I know I really do know better. So much rad stoke was posted last week and I even had some myself.

I just want more. I only hit 1 rock on my run down Olympic. It was the best first day I have ever had and I was at the wood 2 years ago, that day was mind blowing.

I made some efforts to see why the Lets go Telemark movie isnt being showed in Tahoe Area. Got an email back from Mr. Josh Madsen.
He said "We had to cut down the touring schedule this year due to high gas prices -- and I just bought the company last year, so trying to keep stuff tight this year.

I'd love to have a show in Tahoe, if you are into putting one on? I've been donating the flick to people that are looking for something for local fundraising opportunities. Any ideas?"

So I turn to you. Any one have connections that I may be able to set this up with?
Thanks for the help in advance

Talk to the folks at Gear & Grind in Tahoe City. They are heavily involved in the big mountain comp each year. Or Truckee Sports Exchange.
