76 at Oakland Metro today. No birdies. Course pretty rough with Fall repairs in full gear but still nice.
I started playing a cut with my irons for now it's working. Low score for the year.

well, there's a 12 and two 9s after we got a bit silly playing matchplay with no drops. i just wanted to impress you guys with a big number. i had 3 bogeys on the front 9, one on a par 5 after i put my second shot in the water. i guess it is a links style course with narrow somewhat rolling fairways, lot of bunkers and a lot of water.
anyway, yeah, i suck, but it's still fun. kind of like snowboarding i spose.
71.3/137 from blue where we played.

That is a sporty looking course. I will give you that. Love the links style myself.
hey chump, we were waiting on the threesome in front of us the entire morning and not once did the foursome behind us ever get close to waiting on us. i'm aware of pace of play -- it's actually printed on the scorecard you know -- and i assure you i would not hold anybody up. if you hit into me and i'm in accordance with the place of play you won't get your big boy ball back.
OK. Just got back from my pre ski season hike on the mountain behind the house reflecting. As golf began a a game for gentleman let me reassess how intend to handle being hit into. 1st time, wave my arms and assume a "wtf don't you see me?" posture. Normally in the past, apologies follow and life goes on. Hit into me again and I think I'll pocket the ball and wait for the following group to come up, hand the ball back and then invite them play through. If I am given any shit I might add "You guys go ahead , I've always felt having one asshole following me around was enough."
The last time I was pushed by a ranger to speed up, he was in the wrong, I went ballistic, and I ended up shooting my career best score.

It's too cold for golf when the water in the ball washer is frozen.... for an afternoon round.

Club championship this weekend...
"I do look like the Arrow shirt man, I did lace up my skates professionally, and I did do a fabulous job finishing my muffin."
Day 1, I went 86 (41-45) and was 3 back (our club isn't good - small membership base). Three best scores were 83, 86 (mine) and an 89.
Day 2, three low scores paired up, I went 38-39 for a 77...was 1 shot back going into 18, made a big putt to tie it up. The guy that shot 83 day 1 shot an 80 - on to sudden death...
Hole 1 sudden death, I was about 5 feet off the back of the green (flag was top shelf, short sided for me)...I decel'ed my chip...aka, duffed it about 3 feet. My opponent was about 12 feet for bird...I said out loud..."have to make this"...and proceeded to hole my chip. On to second hole of sudden death...
Hole 2 sudden death, I snapped hooked my drive into an unplayable lie. Had to take the penalty and ended up bogeying, my opponent pared for the win. He was the better golfer...a 7 handicap, and just steady as hell. I putted out of my mind today, and bested my career low by 1 stroke, so I was on...great times.

Playing Coal Creek if any Front Range Mags wanna join. Just gotta be back in Westy by 5:30p.
The best things in life aren't things.
The fat putter grip, aka BWD (big white dildo as my buddies call it) is a conversation piece. I had 37 putts on Saturday 28 putts on Sunday, so I think it is safe to say my stroke is a bit too janky for the grip to be a real impact. For Dufner, it makes a difference...for me, probably not so much...
I love it, though.

FKNA bitches. Finally shot par 36 at my local 9 hole track, Stamford Valley Vt. Its no Pine Valley, I will give you that but it was a huge goal for me all summer. Shot 37 about 5 times and shot above 40 a ton. Of course I was alone and had myself a shot of Jamesons at the bar solo. My golf buds will call BS but fuck em. Ok, ready for ski season.
I have played in a handful of club tourneys this summer, and one thing is very apparent...people are not accurate with their handicaps - especially older guys. The point of a handicap system is to level the playing field and make all golfers equal on any given day. However, it is clear that most people take mulligans, don't count penalties, improve lies or do other shit that allows them to say I am a x.x handicap when they are really about 5+ strokes worse...
Golf (and skiing) is a sport that, for some reason, there is a massive pride factor and people feel they have to say they are better than they are. I don't get why it is better to say you shot a 90 when you really shot a 95...who cares, and aren't you better off having a higher handicap if you enter events?
If you are just a casual golfer, I get it...but if you are keeping a handicap, why shave any strokes at all? I don't get it...

Yeah, I've seen that at all age groups. Ego thing. Worse is the sandbaggers that turn in higher scores. Saw the handicap chairman at a club I once belonged to hit the ball 180 yds backwards out of a hazard on 18. As for the low liars, show me your money fools.

Funny thing. I dont even have a handicap. Seems like total douchebaggery to me. I was invited to a member guest at a really nice Ct club this summer but could not play because I did not have an index....BS. I am now establishing an index just to be able to play in tourneys with friends. I have played on and off my whole life. Played a bunch as a teen then a couple of times a year in my 20's and maybe 5 times a year in my early 30's for biz. I play now 5 days a week and count every single fucking shot. I have some buds that are legit good golfers...5-10 handicaps. These guys piss me off though. They dont finish puts an often give each other 5 footers. They also will not score rounds that will mess up there index. They decide this during their round if things start to fall apart. What the fuck is the point if you dont finish the hole?I have played in a handful of club tourneys this summer, and one thing is very apparent...people are not accurate with their handicaps - especially older guys. Back to the handicap thing....shouldnt handicaps be JUST for the casual golfer? I never understood how any serious golfer claims to have "won " their member guest outing when they actually got smoked without the index. Its like lying to yourself.
As far as pure cheaters go in golf... I have seen a few over the years. They were actually doing me a favor really. It pretty much sum up a persons character in a nutshell. Sure I will have beers with them or even play with them again but hiring them or future biz dealings....no fucking shot.
