Ha ha, that's me clicking out of my binding's behind the sixer!, think that was my first initiation to patch skiing. I know better than to follow that guy around![]()
Its funny what a better camera does to this zone...if I lived closer and didn't have two kids, I'd definitely join you.

You skied over rocks on 196 Lhasa's? thats a statement right there.
I could never do that.
The pics look great BTW.

loose rocks really don't do much to hurt skis, especially when the skis have thick skin and tough bases. the weight is spread around to every rock when they all move. It's much easier on your skis than when you're in light pow and you hit a rock. then all the force is located just on the contact point between your ski and the rock in that scenario.
and you are correct. :-)

It's starting to get to the point where we might have to proposition the USFD to:
1. Annex Dunderberg as part of Tahoe
2. get them to install a rope tow or T-bar on Hidden Samurai Snowfield
I think those two glaciers have seen more action this season than the last 10 years combined!

Where is the 12/13 thread? this thread was started in August.
Click. Point. Chute.
starting a winter thread in August is stupid
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Clearly, starting this thread in August jinxed the season, because internet fora may not have an impact on day-to-day weather, they certainly affect overall climatic patterns.
Much though I would rather move on and close the books on a fairly wretched season, I endorse the consensus approach of waiting until the first snow of this season flies.

My calculations for the start of the new season have always involved a combination of:
1. first snowfall in the Sierra (has been late October for the past several seasons)
2. when A-Basin or Loveland open (usually late October)
3. when Timberline re-opens after the close of their summer session (usually early October).
Thus, via cross-calculating all of the above, the new season in Tahoe "generally" begins in October.

The models are showing a massive low pressure off the coast of CA on around October 4th....just sayin'

Mags interested in a ski lease at Alpine, PM me. Best fit is couples, but singles OK. Condo is AT Alpine, not near, not 5 miles away. You can ski home at the end of the day (or lunchtime). Five months starting December 1 (thanksgiving if it snows before the holiday). Four bedrooms, one-car garage, very nice place. Not a party place - we're skiers and want early tracks.

In any case, if you're ever really in this situation make sure you at least bargain in a couple of fluffers.

And a vouch: I shared a ski lease with Sinecure for two years, and he's a standup guy to share with. You might even be able to trade food for ski tuning.

I hope thats right.
I check the temps in tahoe against historical averages and it seems tahoe is running about 5 degrees warmer than its average this summer and so far this fall.
adding that 5 degrees warmer, south lake wouldnt hit below 32 on the lows until mid-october. now, i dont know if theyre taking the temp at south lake at 6000 feet or 8000 feet up a mountain side.
i'm guessing that south lake low temp is at 6000 feet, so its still possible for the mountains to start building snow earlier; but if you add 5 degrees to the daily high; south lake is still hitting the hit 60s; so i'm not optimistic that a lot of snow sticks as long as the temps stay above their averages.
hope i'm proved wrong.
