Here's some misc pics through the day...

    Blank leaderboard:

First tee box from the '60 US Open where Arnie drove the green. The plaque reads: Arnold Palmer - Palmer drove this green in final round scoring 65 for a 280 total and victory:

Random Am teeing off on #3:

Same Am playing his third out of the frontside bunker:

It's almost like we were a part of these groups on most holes. We could just walk behind them a respectable distance and they were cool with it. I think a few of them dug being watched by somebody other than their wife/gf/caddy:

These Italians wouldn't shut the fuck up, even when people in their group were hitting their shots:

These guys were pretty pissed about it.On the third te, dude in yellow shirt snapped at the other three but they obviously didn't understand:

    ShotTracker box:

The halfway house. It's after the 6th hole:

The players were as impressed as we were at this monster par 3:

A couple guy's swings from the top:

    The range:

    The clubhouse:

    Another Am blasting out:

Trophies from all USGA events at Cherry Hills:

Checks from the Open Arnie won in '60:

I play too much golf during the summer and my index is dropping to a point where it makes it hard for me to make money (I play with a number of scratch or better golfers). In any event, I also have some good used clubs if anyone is interested.

^^ Obviously I was joking and from a technical standpoint his swing is pretty flawless. But he was playing like crap for a stretch there.

stayed up all night working, left for the course at 6:45am with no sleep, played the most enjoyable round ever. i was pretty spaced out and relaxed and even though the driving range was closed (which usually is a killer for me), i pitched and putted for 20 minutes and then teed off. was hitting the really well for me, had 39 after 7 holes with a par 4 and 5 on 8 and 9 when fatigue and heat set in and i ended up shooting 54 (15 on 7/8). second 9 was worse, but i hit a much higher percentage of good shots than i normally do and only one disaster hole. i feel pretty good about my chances of breaking 100 before the summer's out.

Saturday was my last day on it, just half a pill. I played 18 on Sunday. I was a little out of it early on, but felt much better as the round went on. The stuff works for sure. Thanks for your post.

any thoughts on "game improvement irons?" based on what i found on the internet, the King Cobra s9 is a game improvement iron. Whatever they are, they are infinitely better than my old set. I still can't believe how heavy the old ones are.

i also plaiyed Adams Idea A2, which also appears to be a gave improvement iron. The Adams seemed easier to hit but when i hit the s9 like I was supposed to I enjoyed it.

Can you progress skill-wise using game improvement irons? Any thoughts on those two models? Is there a better progression from cheap crapply clubs than game improvement clubs?

I think "game improvement" is code for High handie-cap club, which is more forgiving. They tend to have a larger cavity, offset, and a wider bounce on the sole.

They suck if you want playability, and the wider bounce makes it impossible to take up a divot, exp on harder fairways

Not impossible to take a divot, just different. Plenty of pros are using big headed irons, a lot, and they take divots.

Yes Spook, you can progress with those S9s. They are similar/copies to the Callaway X**, fine clubs too.

Don't over think it, unless you are playing with utter crap, it does not matter much. Buy some forged cavity-backs and be done with it for a few years, it sounds like you are getting better and you might crave new sticks soon if you get those Cobras. Cobra makes a nice forged cavityback blade.

Definitly get some mid-handicap clubs. They will have offset and cavity back, but a more traditional look and bounce. I really like my Calloway X-20, (X18-X22 all about the same) they are a few years old and can be picked up for cheap. stay away from blades and no-offset.

I decided on the mid-caps instead of the low even though i'm a 6 to 8 hcp, (depending on the year) because on my local course I do most my work with my driver, 52, 60. I figure anytime i'm holding a mid iron i'm just trying to stay alive, and don't get much practice with those clubs, so I want it to be forgiving even if I lose some playability and shot shaping

Ok, I was mistaken. I just googled the S9 and see that it is about a mid-hcap club, I thought he ws talking about those old person clubs that have a huDge bounce that insist on being "swept"over the ground, like a hybrid.

as you mentioned, the X-20's a great club, that I have no trouble taking a divot up even on firm ground.

I suggest these. They are classic. Cleveland VAS.

You could only be ill informed because you choose to be. How many fucking times does everyone have to suggest clubs for you for fucks sake? Also, what a dumb question. Can you improve your skills with game improvement irons? Did you not get better at Fucking your son after practicing on that box of eclairs?

Those franken-clubs deserve no other wedge than the Alien.

Guroo maybe chill on the harsh insults? This is a golf thread, we all love playing the game, no matter how fucking stupid our questions are. If you don't want to suggest clubs after the fifth request for ideas, don't, but maybe just let it go at that?

what he said. the insults are considerably more annoying than anything spooki posts in here.

shot a legit 94 last time out. 47 and 47. tripled the first hole. parred 3 out of 4 par threes and one par 4. lots of doubles. felt good, though. pretty consistent. held myself to two beers per nine holes, which was about perfect. good times.

It's been pretty dry in the NW lately... was walking 9 last week and this dry creekbed splits the #7 par five. We started noticing smoke and by the time we came up to it there were actually some pretty good flames coming up. It was a pretty empty day and I guess no one had noticed yet. Stupidly I sprinted 2 holes over to the clubhouse and let them know before pulling out the camera but it was still smoking a little by the time I got it out. They were pretty smart about it too, just turned on the sprinklers and watched it for a while.

I think there was a fire down in AZ a few years back claimed to have been started by someone hitting a rock with their club in a desert wash area. Seems like it could happen?!?

i'm limited to what i'm finding, i had never heard of game improvement irons until a few weeks ago, i thought they could be a gimmick, for people who don't care to work at the game, that allows them to get some loft with poor form and therefore lose whatever motivation to improve technically. getting opinions about a particular club without much explanation gives me some information but it doesn't explain the purpose of GII or tell me whether those clubs fit that description. i read about things, then i ask questions. it's a pretty common way to get informed.

so what's a bitter 50+ year old dude doing cracking pedophilia jokes in a golf thread on a ski forum? family must be proud.
