I went to practice the other day. When I got there I could hear thunder but nothing close. I was just putting with my huge rubber grip do I figured I wouldn't be in bad shape. There were people on the range too.

But after a while it turned nastier so I thought I'd leave when I thought I saw the mark of voldemort in the sky(second pic). Just as I was driving away about 5 lightning flashes struck very near by, and shortly after that I saw/heard ambulances going toward the course. Hope everyone was okay.

79 at Oakland Metro today. Wind not too bad. 1 penalty shot a few mental mistakes. My putting does not hold up for the round. I was a pussy and laid up from 217 to a par 5 and got bogey.

Yeah, the weather from golden to Idaho springs is crazy. One year, 2 years ago I think, every time I drove thru there it was hailing. I love exciting weather, but having that happen that year made me steer clear of that region.

Yes. 17 at Metro. Not really a difficult 2nd shot but confidence not great and I'm playing for par generally. Could of made 6 out of the water pretty easily.

So, I had a bit of a mental break-through that has caused me to start laying up on more par 5's than I used to. Looking over past scorecards and where I made birdies, a huge number of them came on short par 4's where I had less than 135 yards into the green. Meaning with wedges there was a high probability of me hitting it somewhat close to the pin.

On par 5's where I went for it in two, if I hit the green or was very close with a short chip, I had an extremely high percentage of making birdie. But if it was a longer par 5 and I left myself a long chip or half wedge, I was no more likely to make birdie than if I had to hit a full wedge (and possibly less so), and of course hitting 3-wood for my second shot brings far more risk into play compared to an 8 or 9 iron.

Seems like kind of a no-brainer and obvious, but sometimes you have to see the stats to force you to change your behavior. Instead of thinking about the chance for an eagle (which are rare as my eagle putts are usually long), I'm far better off trying to turn par 5's into short par 4's unless I estimate at least a 50% chance of hitting the green in 2.

that's probably the way to go - but I say f-it about 95% of the time and go for it if I can! I don't carry a 3wd, just a 19deg 5 wood, so about 250 is my limit for going for it... any more and I lay up. Hell, I often "lay up" with a topped 5wd about 100yds down the fairway so it doesn't really matter... the one legit eagle I've made was rad though so I keep chasing that dream.

Driver fitting today on the launch monitor- not that I'm dissatisfied with my current club, but I didn't put much thought into picking it out and so naturally am wondering if I could take 10-20 yards off the table with an upgrade. I probably can't. So, what's the clubfitting scam of the moment? Already planning to use a sleeve of the balls I usually play, brought my current driver for reference, anything else?

By the way, GolfWRX is the TGR of golf. The same way every 5-foot drop becomes a 15-foot cliff here, everyone's 225-yard drive goes 270 there.

Heading out Eagle Vines in Napa today after work. Time for some more Johnny Miller goofy greens. I'll remember to take a pic of his most ridiculous one yet - it's like mini golf. 5 putted it once, starting with a 20 footer for birdie. I was not happy. The two other people in my group 4 putted. Most amateurs have no business swinging a 45 inch shaft especially if you are under 6 ft. tall. When I got "fiitted" the driver that they recommended based on numbers felt like crap. Their response was feel is overrated.


Try the upsell shafts regardless of what they tell you. If you have money to burn the upgraded shafts are worth it. I'm too cheap to pay up.

45 is fine for most fyi.

TM uses a 46 inch shaft in some of their drivers. Too long for a majority of consumers and players. As the club gets longer, missing the center of the club face goes up, distance really goes down. Yeah, you will hit 2 out of 10 a little longer with a longer shaft, but who cares out of maybe 14 driving holes out of 18.

I paid to get fitted at Keplers WC. Waste of money. You'll get the same input at golfsmith with the only difference being multiple shaft selection.

Indoors is good to get some numbers, but outdoor is where its at for a proper fitting. Helps to have a good eye and a wide variety of shaft options.

I'm 5'10" and play 43.5 driver shaft. Might be 1/2 inch short. But, I grew up with steel shaft on wood.
