I can't say with 100% certainty that it fell under the rule of sharing course knowledge or outside advice, but I'm pretty sure. Another thing we couldn't do, you know, if you play a par 3 or something and pass your guys behind you that are playing said par 3, you can't walk up to them and say, hey, it plays 10 yards long, orrrr, I hit my 180 club on that hole, orrr, it's a 7 iron. Also, you are giving this reject too much credit by thinking that he would understand what we were saying by hinting.
"One season per year, the gods open the skies, and releases a white, fluffy, pillow on top of the most forbidding mountain landscapes, allowing people to travel over them with ease and relative abandonment of concern for safety. It's incredible."

Played 18 today at my favorite track. Wife gone for the day on a "Thelma and Louise" (Going where the road takes us) day with her friend. Told her if she ran across Brad Pitt in a motel room I'd give her a free pass.

    http://www.durandeastmangolfclub.org/

Front nine-Hooked up with two good sticks on the first tee. Had a blast and got invited to sub this Thursday in a league.

Back nine- Two likable average Joes. We told each other stories and I learned about life as an over the road truck driver.

Score? Who cares? Had a bunch of pars, some bogeys and a bird. No doubles. New driver is working out fine.

I'm in if there's a spot open and we get off around/before 9.

Played 18 at Stone Tree in Novato this afternoon, first time for me and I really enjoyed it. It was plenty windy, and the greens were running fast- managed to card an 85.

My biggest issues right now are consistency, and eliminating the blow-up holes. Too many doubles, triples, 3 wiggles, etc...

First round with the LW today, too. Ended up picking up a new Vokey 58/4 over a 60*. I think I should be able to lay it open pretty easily with the low bounce. I used it multiple times effectively, glad I went with the LW over a 2h or a 5wood as my 14th club.

I'm open, doesn't matter much to me. I'm in south Lakewood, but don't mind travelling a bit to play. I haven't played very many courses around, so I'd like to get out and try something new.

A 58 / 60* is a must have at a course like Stonetree, that's for sure. I like that place, but it definitely has some traits that scream "designed by Johnny Miller" (too many doglegs with blind shots). #9 is just a brutal hole, especially from the tips.

hit hard slowly, i like it.
but if i think hit i get to quick at the top and its a pull, i have to think turn hard and let the arms hands and club follow,

Spook, any of the Rotella books are a good read, but seriously the Raymond Floyd book is a good book, i picked mine up on ebay for £1.50 its an old book but a good un,
also short game book i recommend called "in the red zone" you'll find out actually how good or how shit your short game is and you'll be able to see how youre improving if you follow the book, improving your game is about monitoring progress and dealing with weak areas,

Do any of you hackers use any of the available smart phone golf apps?

RockChalk....Those pics are great. From the tee of the #1 handycap hole I would prolly be shitting.

Then after shitting I would start losing golfballs.
Does it play as tough as it looks, or is there a safety area that you can't see from the pic. I play a pretty strait shot, but can't turn it over at will and it seems you would need to work it in right to left to stay on that fairway.
whatever I feel like i what to do!

I almost lost one...hooked a 3wood into the shit on the left, chipped out, and made double.

It is definitely tough, no bailout on the right and left is knee high grass with some room for error. Doesnt matter when you are hooking the fuck out of everything.

Next time I will hit 5i or 3h. No confidence in the 3h right now, I am hooking EVERYTHING with it....fuck

#9 isn't as tough off the tee as it looks, there is some more landing area. But what sucks is, even if you place it perfectly in the middle of the end of the fairway (which takes about 290 - 310 yards) you're looking at 180 - 200 to the long narrow green off an uneven lie. Last time I played that course I had maybe 4 birdies but I was far happier actually making par on #9 for the first time.

When someone asks: "How was the game?"

I always say: "It was up and down. The ball goes up, then it comes down."

Saturday was up and down. One over through five holes (UP) followed immediately by ten -yes ten- over on the last four holes (DOWN).
-I laughed and grabbed another beer.

If you don't want/need a fancy scorecard and custom target distances, then SkyDroid is great for $2 spent. Tons of courses already mapped which gives you distances from your position to front/middle/back, and any other landmarks the course mapper decided may be important. You can't just pick a spot on the map and have it give you distance to that exact spot.

For me, it's plenty. I suck and pretty much just want to know distance to green and major landmarks as I mentioned. At this point I rarely keep score for a full 18, and definitely not tracking any stats. So the lack of scorecard isn't a big deal to me. The SkyDroid folks are hoping to have rev2 out this year which will include a scoring/stats.

Second SkyDroid for a simple app that isn't too hard on battery life. Some courses are much better mapped than others (like, some are solely tee to green, which isn't that helpful when trying to decide what to hit off the tee). I don't know, though, I kind of like looking at the various yard markers and figuring the distance myself, just as part of a pre-shot routine.

edit: nice threads! I got a rain suit for my birthday and it's been nothing but sunshine ever since, so, you're welcome everyone.

The earlier the better for me right up to sunrise although it doesn't matter; I'm open all day.

All the courses owned by Denver are $26 I believe. We could find one in the middle of everyone. If we get the details hammered out by this evening, it would be best to make the tee time tonight because the city courses fill up somewhat early. I'm registered with the website so I can take care of it if need be.

FWIW, I don't even care about playing a city course, I'm down to play anywhere. I'm just trying to keep it around $30 walking. I'll look into some other courses after I get home from work and try to have some suggestions up by 5.

For apps, I like Swing by Swing golf better than SkyDroid. Better UI and you can track shots, putts, and you can click around for target distances.

I'm really digging the swing by swing myself last few weeks., tho it's the only one I've tried. I haven't upgraded to the pay version, but honestly It isn't needed. being able to click around to find your distances is real sweet and has already helped me out alot.

my only Grip is that it sometimes kicks you out of the app if you need to txt or call etc. be nice if it stayed in view on the scroll down bar at the top instead of making you reboot the app back to the hole your on.

i personally like trying to figure out yardage by markers. range finders seem sort of like cheating.
