Baker was amazing today. Sunshine 10 inches or so of pow, and few people.

I threw the world's smallest backflip on the Arm today, and there's a 11/12 obSETHed w/ Duke attached still out there if you know where to look.

How's the snow at Crystal? The usual "okay on Northern aspects, corny on Southern" or something one HAS to go ski? It usually doesn't take much (read: nothing) to get me on skis, but just a couple weeks out of hand surgery, still splinted with pins through bone and joints that may break and require a second surgery.... I want to make sure it's phenomenal snow.

I was up yesterday. Early morning was the best with 9+" mid weight fresh snow. Nobody there and untracked everywhere. Nice and deep in places (unskied stuff from Thursdays snow). By late morning it had warmed up and it got heavy and sticky (high C). Started snowing wet snow around 11 and we left at 1:00.

Yes-Yesterday morning at Crystal was juicy in the early AM. They opened Northway in the afternoon after a bunch of issues & delays, and alot of angry skiers were circling. It got hit fairly quick but left a pretty decent amount for today, because the sweat factor was getting high. Upper mountain was a spring delight. Here's a few clips, a few seconds of Kelly's Gap avy debris at about 2:00-

Dang it was awesome at Baker yesterday! Powder and not many there which is why they close after next weekend.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

Maybe this is old news, but I just noticed on Crystal's site they're staying open till "at least June 12th." Obviously weekends only, but this is great news!

$99 spring pass, if you have an Alpy or Crystal pass.

I'm often confused but if Sunday was awesome with not many peeps there, what do you call Friday?

    Super-duper awesome, almost deserted?

Very dry snow but with some substance, fast but almost sandy. Depth: 12-24" with a nice soft bottom, no ice, no crust. Definitely "hero snow" and with the weather to match. South facing slopes turned to spring mashed potatoes pretty fast. Stuff in the shade stayed awesome most of the day.

    Where were you?

    A work day.

OK, sounds like you guys have a valid excuse ("work" is a four letter word on a powder day)

I took a hike near Table Mountain today since the area was closed. Baker had 3-4" more of light, dry pow this morning (Glacier, WA had six inches of fluffy damp snow). Here's some pics:

Unfortunately, Baker Ski Area is closing for the season after this weekend. Why would an area that had this much snow in the parking lot (Heather Meadows) close in mid-April? That's before spring skiing even begins in these parts!

The way they run this area one might get the impression that money is all that matters!

I was there Friday, and you're right - sleeper pow day. The whole mountain was a ghost town. Got first tracks down gabl's like 5 times! Got a face shot so big I had to stop and wipe my goggles... at noon!

Who rode the sketchy line on the arm in the morning? Lotta slough on that one.

I saw one next to the Beast, no idea who but it looked like they had a "no turn" av strategy. Looked like it worked that time.
