Anyone want to row the Middle Fork Salmon?

I've got a June 3rd launch date with a group of about 12 but I had two key boats drop out leaving us down too 2-3 boats. I'm lookin for someone with a fully rigged setup who'd wanna come down with us and take a couple passengers. We've got mixed experience, some noobs and experienced folks. Level should be good, around 5 ft I imagine. Who wants it?

Hope you get your rafts lined up. Not being pessimistical at all, but if it's 5 feet on June 3rd I will shit you a solid gold Monkey. At 5 feet it starts to have some meat. It should be a very manageable three feet or so.

But what do I know? At the flow you will have the fishing will start to be very good and I have done well early season out there so don't be afraid to bring fly gear. I will check with some of my homies, but everyone is poor. I barely pulled it off to get out there last week.

    Good luck.

5 ft seems possible, but I don't really know how likely it is. Some predictive statistics put it just above 5 ft, and some just below. If the weather continues to be cooler and rainy through labor day (thats what its lookin like) it'll hold steady, but once June hits it will be getting sunny and hot (my prediction ). Then its up to the river gods to tell us how much higher elevation water turns into stream flow.

    I know ya'll wanna...

Nice little uptick started yesterday. We had some huge downpours in K-town today. Rained as hard as I have ever seen for a half hour or so. I am afraid for mudslides in the burned areas. Even on the Fork. The gauge shows those as a rise then a dip or leveling then another rise.

I will start eating gold foil if the river keeps rising.

I think this trip is coming together, we have a minimum for boats... Could possibly take another raft.

Was also wondering if any missoula mags would lend out a dry top for a case of beer, on the smaller side for a female friend?

It's been crazy how much rain we've been getting. Obviously the spike in river flows show that. Should be a good weekend.

well shuck my corn, I have never seen rain this hard for this long. Makes a fall Middle Fork start to look more likely though.

Just got back last night from 5 days down the M.F. We put on 5/29 at 3.99' and pulled off at Cache Bar on 6/02 at ~4.25'. 4' on the gage seems like a great level for first-timers (75% of our group of 16 were first timers). Not too big and most of the rocks in the technical sections above Indian Creek are padded out nicely.
We seemed to really luck out on the weather too. Only got 20 minutes of heavy downpour on the next to the last day. This river really takes on a big water feel below Camas Creek. Even the Class II sections had 5' waves. Can't wait to go back!

16K today. Almost 9 feet on the gauge. Damn I wish I was out there.

Sure to be some good stories coming off the fork here soon.

Hope it didn't catch everyone with their pants down.

    Be safe.

At least that hole in Cove Cr/Tappan will be washed out......

And HC - they had something like an inch a half of rain starting last Wed in Cascade in a 24 hour period, and 2.5 inches of rain in 48 hr time thru Friday.

And it wasn't just one area it was the whole area north of Ketchum all the way to MT and North Idaho. Pummeling it was.

I heard there was a fatality a couple days ago, some friends of mine got flooded off their permit. Hopefully they can float it in a few.

Rumored 2 fatalities, a lot of holed up campers and flights out. Sounds rowdy.

    Hey Nate,
I heard of the death of the Montana man in Hancock -
RIP Michael Fitzpatrick - but I hadn't heard anything else other than a rumor of something on the Main or Lower Main.

    Details??

Edited my post...just called my buddy who was on a trip and mentioned it to me but he couldn't confirm two separate fatalities but said the guy in Hancock was certain but there was possibly another guy who fell off a cliff scouting Redside.

Given the proximity of the two rapids, might be the same death...? From the sounds of things, people were all over the place. I'll post back if I hear more. I would assume the news would have hit the wires if there were two.

Wow what a ride! We put in Friday at 6.5 ft, and immediately had issues. Murphy's took its toll and scattered two of our boats for a couple miles. Velvet was absolutely massive and developed a left hand sneak, the rock you normally tuck behind on the left was almost totally submerged. The river was totally choked with wood which made Lake creek interesting. Pistol creek was full on madness. We ended up flying out of Indian creek because our group was pretty hammered and lacked high water experience. The group who launched before and after us both bailed within the first couple miles. Gear was strung out everywhere, and we saw several boats float past. Looks like there is one confirmed death from the lower canyon. The hydrograph shows the whole trip above 7 ft with a peak at 8.7 ft!

Glad to hear you made it out of the canyon one way or another. I have been watching the chaos on the gauge for the past week. Thinking about you and your crew.
We launch next Thursday and I sure hope it drops a lot to be closer to the 3.5 or 4' mark.

Bryan: Glad you're alright. Heard the NRS gang had a shitshow of a float about the same time as you.

Still waiting to hear back from the local PNW guys who headed out on a May 29th launch.

Just talked to the source that told me there might be two deaths. Only one death that was mentioned above. He was on the river that day and received two different stories from two different parties and assumed two different people.
