Took in Sam Roberts (outside) and Jully Black (in the beer garden) at the Surrey Celebration site on the Friday night. Only took a couple pics, here's the Olympic sized beer garden with concert stage. Cool night partying with sis

Headed downtown on the Saturday to party it up with sis and friends again, ending up at The Shark Club pretty much all night. Had a blast watching various events, sharing tables and chatting with all kinds of people. I was trying to get in touch with my buddy all night, he'd been drinking large at the Irish House and then the Cecil (strip bar). Finally got a text back a few hours later "just getting out of jail man!" No way, hahaha. Fucking cops were a bit rough on his lady as they were making them pour out their open liquor on Granville. He stood up a bit but he hates the popo and went too far. Ended up getting put down real hard as he struggled like a dumbass. Face roadrash, charlie horsed quads and a real fucked up elbow. Wasn't there so no pics of that!

took a pic of the cauldron

and the Granville street insanity, picture this many people for about 6 blocks and many of the side streets and squares. Actually pretty well behaved for a crowd that big. Like others have said, it's a pretty damn cool vibe downtown, especially when the sun was shining bright for so many days. Not too many people, or cops, stressing out the small shit.

another Granville shot from last Sat night

took in a Women's curling game the next night after watching our boys get worked over by Ryan Miller and my boy Kesler.

Caught yesterday's Canada vs Russia game at a buddy's way out in the burbs then headed into town to grab another buddy and pick up scalper seats to Sweden vs Solvakia quarterfinal. $70 bucks for some awesome seats right before the game started!

not a bad line but not good enough on this night

should be able to snag a few more the next few days here, maybe sneak a ski day in, then I sleep for a week and get back to skiing again

I simply can't believe the IOC is getting their undies twisted about those Canadiagirls partying like rockstars after they won gold, and the stadium emptied. They earned it, party on eh?

cool. fuck work: i'll provide the commentary translation.

    to start:

"За ролята, която играе в осигуряването на американската независимост, Джордж Вашингтон е признат от американските правителства за една от най-значимите фигури в историята на САЩ. За разлика от мнозина революционни водачи, които се стремят да запазят спечелената власт и така се превръщат в монарси или диктатори, Вашингтон доброволно се отказва от нея."

I'll be the first to say it ...

the final four skaters in the women's figure skating last night was one of the best groups of figure skaters to take olympic ice. Kim Yu Na with the highest scoring program ever (under the current scoring system yeah yeah) and just with absolutely perfect execution, then her rival sticking all her big jumps and not skating quite as well but still incredibly, then Joannie Rochette skiing with not quite as much of an aura as on Tuesday but still bringing home the medal for her country and her family (I got choked up listening to her press interview), and then Nagasu skating clean and showing off her awesome spins and flexibility. It was quite a thing to watch.

I'd be talking about Women's hockey too but I don't have cable TV and I was at work till 10 PM last night

I agree. It was fun to watch and not a single fall in that final group. Usually it's a question of "who won't crack?" Last night it was who stepped it up the highest. No question Yu-Na was the class of the field, though. She was already making endorsements of somewhere around $10 million per year. Can you imagine what she's worth now? And she's pretty easy on the eyes.

The Finnish girl was very cute but skating wise not in the same class.

oh yeah, Yu Na is going to take her rockstar status up another couple levels after that for sure.

And Joannie Rochette, wow! The entire nation, the entire world even, all out there pulling for her was pretty special. Winning a medal was jsut icing on the cake, I'm proud she was even able to compete and fulfil her lifelong dreams. Her story and strength absolutely captivated the nation.

4 man bobsled is like being strapped to a missile. And your time still counts whether you come in upside down or not. Really scary.

They're mostly kids on that women's hockey squad, and kids everywhere drink cheap, shitty beer it seems. I've usually got a fridge full of microbrew ales (Sleeman's Cream and New Belgian Fat Tire are perennial favourites), and my sons bring home PBR. Go figure.
