I know I am repeating myself, byt has anyone seen any long term weather predictions for this season? I am really hoping the snow will keep coming down like it did in the last two years..

well there are certain long-term weather patterns that affect the weather on a long-term scale ( the north atlantic oscialtion is one that I know of), meteorologists use that for pretty accurate long-term predictions , though I hope they are wrong in the one I posted above

Yeah, that forecast is about as vague as you can get... Really doesn't tell anyone anything.

According to snow-forecast Zermatt will be pretty decent next weekend. Freezing levels around 2400m and snowfall on: Tuesday(moderate), thursday(light), Friday(light), Saturday(heavy) and Sunday(light).

What do you guys think? Is it worth driving 900km? Or should I wait a few weeks (or more) for that BIG dump?

Damn, powder just arrived, so stoked right now

depends on your jones level. if it's snowing, zermatt (the glacier at least) isn't that much fun. you won't be able to see a damn thing so you will be limited to the pistes, which kinda cancels out the powder. i'm waiting and watching for a bluebird day myself.

    Zermatt

Long time, guys. New job, but as eager to ski as ever.

Now this upcoming weekend I will be going to zermatt with a friend to get a taste of this seasons first skiing. I am really really looking forward to it - its been too long.

I don't know the area at all, but I understand the skiing on the glacier is pretty decent. I wonder if I should bring my pist skis, my powder skis, or my do-it-all workhorses (G4). Depends on the conditions, but the info on the net is limited.

Anyone in the know who wants to share

Wrong side of the mountains. But the forecast is still some inches of fresh snow this week. On top of the glacier it should be good. 17 out of 62 lifts reported to be open. No snow in Zermatt town, but I don't really mind.

Time to check out some of the posh chicks...

wrong side of the mountains? for you?

i think val d'isere is only reporting 5 inches but the webcams show some significant amounts... granted im saying significant amounts because a week ago there was no snow what so ever at the base areas.

and yes it looks like the forcast is more snow which is a +

kanutten! bring your pow skis. the weather may not break but better to be prepared for pow than not. you can always rent some piste skis if needed.

there is a longshot chance that i could be there, so remember to shout "change for a nickel" often. and look surprised so that i can recognize you.

Beauiful beautiful sight! Yes, even if it does melt down at the base and the valleys if it reaches there, it should help the upper mountain at least a bit. Thanks for the updates! Keep the pictures coming!

haha, sorry im just kinda confused at your response, what is 'foehn'

and what do you mean "the meteo is heading in a negative trend overall and that is postive"

like the weather is looking stormy and crap and that is good???

and it WILL melt everything away

btw. NW USA gets a lot of snow these days, but next week it's gonna be quite arctic there (night temps maybe minus 30°C.... brrrrrr) still better than summer though.
especially cold blue bird days after these storms they get now

It also gives the Munchkins headaches and is reason to call in sick in Muenchen.
The Frenchies suffer the Mistral which can be accompanied with a dust storm also melting the snow like crazy.
The junior Jongs suffer the Geezer Gapers

I imagine ther must be some ice to ski on up the road on the Stilfser Joch (Passo Stelvio) Why did the Allies, WW I, let Italy have all those beautiful Austrian Mountains. You might try lighting some candles in the local parish church.

You guys are making me so sorry I decided to spend Nov/Dec in Thailand.

I'll be checking back the night before my return flight, December 9th, and want to see happy powder faces!

I wonder if they still shut down Passo Stelvio October mid-November now that the winter snow comes later each year
