    PR Mags?

Any folks here in PR? I'm putting out a press release and need some advice. Specifically, I'm wondering if PR Web (prweb.com) and PR Newswire (prnewswire.com) are worth the cost or if one is better than the other. I'm hoping to get a release out in the next day or so. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    From a PR Guru

"PR Newswire --- WAY better, more reputable. Expensive yes, but typically worth it."

The process is about as simple as can be.

thanks - i'll check them out. turns out you can join PR Newswire in 24 hours - $150 to join and $680 for a 400 word release. fuckers. i'm not convinced these things are worth it. we're going to post the release on our company blog, which pings all major search engines. does anyone really read news wires anymore? any thoughts if this worth it?

You should mention what the release is about--is it of local interest? regional? national?

it's web-based with a finance focus...so not really regional. my main PR strategy is to target finance bloggers (of which there are many) with subsidized services. it looks that that will be attractive to them and many will be interested in writing about us. their stuff gets picked up by yahoo finance, etc. i'm trying to see the value in paying ~$1000 to send out our press release on a "new wire", whatever the fuck that is. their sites look like crap and are clogged with crap. i put a call into a pr friend - hopefully they'll give me some insight. any and all thoughts are appreciated.

this is sort of interesting - says prweb is trying to unseat PR Newswire and Business Wire with $200 releases:
