    Binding Decision ...

    wwmd?
    Quiver:
    179 classic bro, mounted w/916
    179 fat bro (on order)
    185 praxis (on order)
    SM Marker Duke (arrived!)
additional used 916 (in the mail)

So, I would like use the 916s on the praxis and fat bros and the marker dukes on the old bros.

Will there be a problem mounting the dukes over the 916 hole pattern? Any other suggestions?

    Thx!

Tough call. I'd throw the Dukes on the Fat Bro because that's the ski I'd want for big pow and thus to tour on as I would assume it would be the better option for the various crusty manky snow you can find in the BC. The 916's def go on the Praxis.

As far as the Dukes over the solly holes...should be alright but tough to say without knowing your boot sole length. If the Dukes are in hand you should be able to eyeball it with the template.

    exactly my call.

    fat bro = touring
old bro and praxis = regular bindings

as for 916? damn, girl, you be crankin' the DIN

Damn thats one sexy setup for a woman to have. Will you marry me?

EDIT: oh yeah, and I agree with whats said above, unless another option on the board would be sell a pair of 916's and get another pair of dukes to tour with the praxis, thatd be nice.

Bklyn got it spot on the first time - regular bros are wide enough to tour on and be stable in a variety of snow @ 99mm underfoot and will fractionally keep the weight down. Dukes seem to be burly enough to handle inbounds everyday too, so you don't lose the option of using them for inbounds riding on firmer days. And come spring/summer touring, the slightly narrower waist of the bro will be more comfortable on firm stuff.

I actually disagree knowing tracy she will probably started skiing the fat bros all the time. The dukes are the best binding to drive the fatter ski with the wider bases(to be fair yes they would drive all those ski better than the 916s) and wil give here the ability to take one of pair of skis and be able to tour on the same pair.

remember she fly all the time except for the odd ski day back east(which would be on the normal bros more than likely) and having the 179 Fat mounted with dukes would mean all her bases are covered in one trip when she goes out west, if its going to be really good snow wise she can take the praxis to.

Could you please further explain why you think the dukes will be better than 916s for driving the wider skis?

Just curious how you reason here since i too need to decide which skis gets dukes or race binders (p18s): mantras or katanas.

My initial thought was to use mantras with dukes for touring as you may encounter gnar on your tours and want that edge to hold... As well as really fucking steep stuff. But maybe this is an opinion that needs to be revised?

When will you be doing your touring?

If you will mostly be touring in winter months and winter conditions, totally put the Dukes on Fatty Bros. Touring in mostly spring months and spring conditions, Dukes on regular Bros.

But if your only touring will be on trips out west to ski with mags and cat trips, and sidecountry, and stuff, Dukes on the Praxis for sure.

    Fun decision to make

The Dukes have wider mounting position, something like 75ish, i forget the exact number. This wider positioning of the screws and base equal a quicker edge to edge feel on fatter skis

    Dukes on Fat Bro's
    916 on others.
That way you have a mega fat and a skinny resort ski and a really versatile ski for touring+resort. This is awesome for staying where you are (unlikely)

    OR

    Praxis-916
    bro-duke
    fat-916
Because when you travel you won't want to bring more than 2 setups and that maximizes your travel options.Bring the praxis and bro-duke and you're covered for no snow/ Pow / resort/ touring.
Unfortunately this setup kinda kills any use of the fat bro.

Winter months, mostly. I think the praxis will be a lift served/sidecountry pow ski for me, at least for this first season with them.

You might want to think twice on that. I spend entirely too much money on gear, clothes and shoes.

Tried it, doesn't look good. But I'm no expert. BSL:300

You are right. The old 179s are going to be my skinny skis and I will travel with the fat bros as my go to ski mounted with the dukes, bringing either the praxis or old bros along based on weather. This way I'll always have a touring setup with me.

Although I see some good reasons to go with my original plan, I will probably not remount the old bros now.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions and clarifications.

They probably won't be shipped in time for Nov, but I will bring them to snowbird and you can try them. And what's up with your grammar? Are you losing your mind in PA?

Clothes and shoes are pretty much gear. Stick with gear. We like gear. Don't fvck with the fantasy.
