Drug Bust at the Peruvian Lodge
    Apr. 9, 2004

Drug agents this morning shut down a slope-side drug dealing operation in the town of Alta. They busted five people and seized marijuana and hallucinogenic mushrooms.

State Agents and the Alta Town Marshal raided two rooms at employee housing for the Peruvian Lodge, which is owned and operated independently from the Alta Ski Lift Company.

Several months ago, the State Bureau of Investigation got an anonymous tip that some employees were dealing drugs out of their rooms at the Peruvian Lodge. They notified the town marshal who asked the state to investigate.

Undercover agents moved in and made undercover buys of marijuana. When they showed up with warrants this morning, they seized 11 ounces of marijuana and two pounds of mushrooms--a combined street value of about ten thousand dollars. They also came up with drug paraphernalia and one thousand dollars in cash.

Capt. Michael Kuehn, Utah Highway Patrol: “We had undercover agents go to the lodge and investigate and build a case. It took about three months to culminate in the arrests made yesterday."

Two of the employees were from Utah, the other three from out of state. They ranged in age from 19 to 27. They each face up to five years in prison if convicted.

The Peruvian Lodge had no comment.

Another Victory On The War Against Drugs!

What kind of world do we live in where you can't get drugs at the Peruvian? A sad, drug-less world. That's what kind of world.

Wow. Lifties use/sell pot and mushrooms?

That would have never occurred to me.

A most judicious use of our tax dollars.

If I had known that you could buy mushrooms at the P-dog, the cops would have siezed $1050 instead of just $1000.

And it took the town Marshal a snicth and 3 months to figure out a few of the boys were selling weed down there? ? ? ? That fat ass needs to stay out of the GMD eating free cheeseburgers and try doing his job for a change. Or better yet, go patrol Provo where he belongs.

As someone who knows some of the people who were arrested and as a part-time Alta resident, I have a few things to say.

You have to be extraordinarily stupid, careless, and/or loose-lipped to get busted in Alta. And in this case, all of the above apply.

I hold much respect for the Alta Marshals and I'm sure that bust was not one they wanted to commit their time and resources to.

Lastly, I'm glad there was no meth involved. That stuff is fucking garbage.

Hopefully this incident doesn't hurt the Peruvian's business next season.

    Thumbs down

Fucking lame. That makes me so mad - the P-dog is sacred. I am sure that those involved were some of my friends. The Utah stance on mary jane is pathetic.

If anyone knows who was involved, please pm me. Thanks.

Indeed, you're right. But the fact that almost every car with CO tags get pulled over by the Utah gestapo sucks. I just feel bad for the Peruvian - it is really a family, and that's how they treat their guests. I hope that those guys aren't sent away for twenty years.

Gotta agree with 13 on most of his comments. The Marshalls in general don't really want to get involved, but fucking NARCs can't be ignored. Keep in mind there were Utah state, SLC county, and I believe federal officials involved in this as well.

PS: when cops are busting people at your house don't start throwing shit out the window...

PPS: THis pretty much can't affect business since GMD had a heroin bust earlier this year, and ALodge and Rustler have both had big busts in the last 2 years also...

In a capitalistic economy, market forces will weed out the inferior business people. Regardless of regulation, demanded products will be delivered to the marketplace.

    Fuck the Police

I used to drive from San Diego to Jackson through Utah twice a year. The Police are relentless in their efforts to make drug busts. They have probalable cause to pull your over if you have a Greatful Dead sticker on your car.

During a random stop outside Nephi:
My buddy and I went to get coffee, two cops were also getting coffee. They pulled us over immediately but their was only one cop? Hummm?
He searched for 45 minutes and was pissed that he didn't find anything. At one point he was under and behind the drivers seat looking. The cops gun was so exposed and I was only two steps away near the hood of my car. I looked at my friend and thought, "This is wack!"
So... He let us go and when I was pulling onto the onramp of the freeway I looked back to see the other cop with a riffle and a listening device dish running down the freeway embankment to the cop car! Fucking pig had his finger on the triger "On Me!" We smoked the joint he didn't find so fast!
