    Alta slopesteeze competition

Just saw that Alta is having its first ever slopestyle competition tomorrow morning. The best part?...it's free. Sounds like this could be fun, and you could be a part of history. So who's down? I am planning on entering...if I'm not out too late tonight with my special lady friend. I just think it's cool that Alta is taking some steps in this direction.

    THE DETAILS

Shit, if it's free I'll enter it. Pizza slice steeze.

Do you need a pass tho? Hmm...Not worth the $20 for a pass.

Hey, anyone know if you can get to the top of Sunnyside -- or whereever the park is -- from the Alta/Bird pass?

Looks like you can take Devil's elbow to Supreme Access and drop down to the top of Sunnyside from there.

Saw phUnk and powho practicing earlier. They weren't sure what time they were actually starting and the snow was too good to stand around all day, so we just skied. Looked like there were about 10 competitors though.

Anyway, things were nice and windbuffed this morning. I started out with zero confidence that skiing would be fun (it was freaking cold, wind was howling and I figured it would be dust on crust), but it was actually sweet. We cut in the High T this morning, got fresh tracks all over the backside, Glory Hole, and did 4 full untracked laps in Ballroom/Badnews. If my neck wasn't bothering me I'd still be up. Good day though.

Oh, and I'm sure I'm too late, but you'd have to take Sunnyside to get back up to the park.

Think phUnk and Powho can come through with top 10 finishes?
10 guys, man, Alta likes slopestyle only a little more than they like snowboarders.

I heard our very own lil' phUnky threw a clean misty 540 off a 40 foot tabletop, landed it, and wowed em.....

    And got 3rd.

Was beaten out by a Backflip Screaming Seamen and a backflip Iron Cross (or whatever, I'm not up on the tricks from the 70s).

    Congrats, beyotch.

    Thumbs up

I followed up with a stuck Rodeo 5 on the forty footer on my next run, but didn't get the grab so my style points knocked me back to third place. 3rd place is the second loser, but that loser is me baby! Heh.

Seeing Brady (water ramp/Alta/Snowbird buddy) get a snowmachine ride down after straight-air overshooting the 40 footer and getting chicken-winged (dislocated shoulder) during practice sucked.

And then I got to witness some guy throw the 540 death roll to under rotation to case the landing to landing on his hip/ribs/shoulder/face to getting knocked out. He finished that run on a backboard.

Overall, the vibe was great, the kicker was big and well built, and the judging was good. PowHo competed too, he won an Alta mug, just like he was hoping for.

I'm just stoked that I stepped up to that kicker after it sent 2 guys home, threw my most tech tricks and landed em both. Got some fun swag too.

Speaking of water ramp alumni getting worked lately, Rob went for the rodeo 7 the other day and over rotated to 9 and shattered his helmet. On the slush. He doesn't remember the last 2 weeks and he can't drive or do heavy physical activities for 2 months.

And lest I forget, congrats to phUnk and the ho.

If I had known you guys were competing I would have gone down and checked it out in the afternoon. One of my buddies said the conditions were pure shiat in the morning, so big props to phunkman for airing it out on some big ass jumps (PowHo too!).

As for me, I spent a brief morning skiing Patsy Marley ridge and Rocky Point. Creamy and a lot deeper than I thought. Everything in that area was also so less tracked then I've gotten used to. Some kick ass skiing for very short walks. Excellent morning turned into a good afternoon as I watched Pedro and the Sox kick some Blue Jay ass! Solid day all around, hopefully more of the same tomorrow...

This thread is awesome. Way to get after it phUnk and powho. It sounds like of the top 3 phUnk was the only one throwing down anything newschool.

    What was the Ho throwing?

How many hits were in the course? Rails / boxes?

Damn, sounds like mass carnage. Glad you guys escaped, phUnk with hardware. Be careful, stay on those landings.

They had two sets of rails and a booter. On my first run I did a three and actually rode both rails to the end. My second run I crashed doing a 180 on the booter. I landed fine but just caught an edge and went down.

I wasnt there but smooth tricks (even a backflip) will usually win out. Of course the judges might not know how technically different misties and rodeos are. Screamin seamen backflips are pretty hard, harder than other newschool tricks, especially when done smooove.
