    ? for Bay Area Mags

My brother has business in SF this weekend and I'm going to drive down to meet him from Truckee. I really don't want to deal with parking my truck down there because paying for parking is expensive and the whole driving around looking for parking makes me want to kill someone. The only thought I had was driving down, buying a long term parking pass for the BART and taking it into town. I'm a junk show when it comes to cities so any ideas would be appreciated.

If you're afraid of parking in the city, check out this map...don't park in a permit area, and then find a bus line that will take you central in the city...

or you could do the BART thing.

Yeah, what Moore said, find a non-permit spot. You can park in Ft Mason with no problems. Also parking in Inner Richmond (2nd ave and higher) is easy and you can take the Geary/Cali bus to other parts of the city.
Progress isn't made by early risers. It's made by lazy men trying to find easier ways to do something.

Parking in SF isn't that hard. Where are you meeting your friend and how long are you in the city? Places that aren't too hard to find parking: Outer Sunset, certain parts of Golden Gate Park.

I'll be in the city for three days. It's not that I'm afraid to park in the city, I'm just an idiot and don't know where to park. If I can park in one spot and not worry about leaving or moving my truck for 2 nights/3 days I'm in. Putting me in a city is just like putting your average city person in the middle of the wilderness.

I'd suggest the outer Sunset for those purposes. You'll have to make sure to avoid street cleaning though (usually once a week).

What about the ferry from Vallejo?

    http://www.baylinkferry.com/

My wife used to take it out of SF, when I worked in Vacaville.

    note: Parking stuff

Overnight Parking: Overnight parking is allowed up to 48 hours. Parking in public lots is at your own risk. Parking lot security is only provided during the day time and - while most people report no problems - we advise people to park near one of the bordering streets or under a parking lot light.

In the presidio at the 15th ave entrance? Or down by Lucasfilms in the Marina? There is permit parking in the Richmond until Park Presidio.
Vallejo ferry lot sounds like a break in spot, like many BART lots closer to the city.
Where do you need to be in SF? I think Sutter Stockton downtown is like $24-8 per day, probably the same at Ellis Ofarrell and 5th and Mission.
Of course, I park in my driveway everyday in Jackson now.

Permits are only for mon-fri. Parking is great in the city, its free if you dont mind moving your truck every two hours (in residential areas). Id just drive to the city and park. Where will you be staying...If we know that, we may be able to help you a little more.

Amtrak is a most excellent ride. I often park in Sacramento for days and take the commuter train the rest of the way in. I've never taken it from Truckee, but I bet it's a beautiful trip.

    Don't they have parking there?????

If you are going to be in SOMA (south of market) I'd say don't drive. It can get nasty down there, and you wont want to park your car just anywhere.

Wherever you park in SF, absolutely DO NOT leave anything visible. Smash and grabs happen all the time (especially SoMa) so even if you're out of the car for 5 minutes, take your backpack, iPod, whatever.

And if you do park further out for a couple days, make sure to pay attention to street cleaning days!

They have parking there but it's 45 bucks and I really didn't want to pay 90 bucks just in parking fees.

Thanks for the advice, gonna do the bart parking thing. It's under 20 bucks and I don't have to worry about finding a spot or street sweeping.

Skimoore has his windows smashed and his gear jacked last year if you couldn't tell.

    Lightbulb

Park in the dogpatch area of Potrero Hill, near the 22nd St Caltrain Station. Better yet, Park on 22nd and Tennessee which is on the same block as the Hells Angels HQ. Nobody will fuck with your car. I guarantee it.

No permit required and street cleaning once a week.

Don't leave valuables and shit visible.

Parking is soma is fine, dont go above 5th. Brannan, bryant etc are pretty easy to find spots. I have a friend who lived down there and never had any trouble.

    We are neighbors then.

FYI: A car next to mine parked at the palace had its windows smashed in the other day...it happens everywhere.
